In terms of mobile/benchtop units, this is about as robust as you'll find. Mine has served me well, I still use it frequently, but understand it comes with limitations (that you can work around if this is to be your only table). The two biggest imo being:

1. As the name implies, it sits on your benchtop. I find that working height terribly uncomfortable.

2. The working surface is rather small, so shaping longer stock will require additional setup

Neither of these are unique to this unit, but rather limitations of benchtop setups.

I have bought this table and it wasn't flat enough for precise work. So i have decided to order second one and check it - same story. Now i understand why people build their own stuff - precision. If you buy it have a long ruler and check diagonally.

Thanks I was kind of looking for my first router in the height of these things did confuse me. But there doesn't really seem to be any low profile models out there. It's either this design or a router with lift kit, right? Also, don't I want to go find a battery powered model?

You're basically looking at two different types of setups, a benchtop/mobile unit or a fixed unit (freestanding or incorporated into a table saw). Both will likely have some sort of router lift.

EDIT: realized I should've added a third option...a DIY setup that you could build into any other table you like....you'd need a compatible mounting plate and lift

I suppose I'm okay building something into a large bench that I already have, but when you include the cost of the lift kit and the router these benchtop units are half the price almost, plus the effort of the retrofit. So I was hoping for a portable that wasn't sitting so high off a workbench.

Thanks OP. what a timing. I was debating between building a router table vs. grab one of these; this very unit was sitting on my cart for past few days.

I was debating between this one and SKIL RT1323-01 (table + router), I'll take the Bosch's Aluminum top.

This is a very decent router table and easy to mount to a base. The table and fence are nice for this price with a usable miter slot and t slot respectively. Easy to build a small cabinet to bring it to the height of your table saw or work table and the base has holes for fixation if you want to extend the working area. The only criticisms I have are the dust collection below the table could be better and the insert plate is non standard sized; only one company (o'skool) makes a better router lift for this sized plate.

The top of this table fits as a replacement wing for most tablesaws with minimal modifications.

I have the older version of this same table. You can flush the top of the work table into a wooden work bench. On mine, I built a cabinet under my router with a door and then plumbed in my shop vac to the cabinet. The vacuum helps pull the dust down into the cabinet where it can be swept out later.

As far as a cordless one, depends on your projects and what you are routing. Cordless ones are good for laminate and trim, but not much else.

Same exact issue. After the second one, I called customer service and told them about it. They connected me to an engineer who I emailed back and forth a few times and shared photos. He took the time to mill another top in his shop and sent it to me with a nice note. I still have the table but don't get to use it often but this is good enough for most. Just be sure and check the surface is flat
