The Streamlight Strion HPL is a solid, professional-grade flashlight that shines in reliability, build quality, and convenience rather than cutting-edge specs. Its strengths are rugged aircraft-aluminum construction, a well-regulated beam with good real-world brightness, included AC/DC charging cradle, and a reputation for long-term dependability, especially among duty and work users who value gear that "just works." The downsides are equally clear: the proprietary battery and charger lock you into Streamlight replacements, runtime on high is modest by modern standards, the design lacks USB-C and newer battery tech, and its price often reflects brand and durability more than raw lumen-per-dollar value. In short, it is a good value if you prioritize durability, simplicity, and a proven platform, but not the best value if your goal is maximum performance, runtime, or modern features for the money.
Streamlight of late seems to be relying on their brand reputation and professional user base. They're in serious danger of making the same mistake a certain "professional grade" flashlight manufacturer of 20 years ago. They got their name selling baton-sized flashlights to law enforcement and private security companies. They were still touting over-priced xenon-bulb incadescent technology offering tens of lumens of output and disposable D-cell power supplies when the rest of the world was moving on to LED emitters and nickel-cadnium rechargable batteries.
Now that company is primarily known for their AA cell flashlight gift sets marketed as father's day presents in big box DIY stores. Who was that also-ran company again? I think the name began with an "M" ....

People complain about "apple tax" and fanboyism, it this requires a special type of mental hurdles to explain away the buy-in.
