Has anyone tried diluting regular Dawn and putting that in the powerspray container? I realize that the ingredients are probably slightly different but how did it work?

The secret ingredient is isopropyl alcohol. There are recipes out there if you really need to scale up

Dawn said there are 3 ingredients not found in regular dish soap: Denatured Alcohol, Glycol Ethers and Ethanolamine. The last two are industrial cleaning agents.
So alcohol + Dawn won't be the same but close.

Thanks, I didn't know; I'd only seen the posts in these kinds of past posts! Maybe that validates my lazy choice to just buy the refills when they come up on SD as needed.

I did. The reason to use power wash I believe is to spray, leave it on for few minutes so that it breaks down grease and everything and then you just gently scrub and wash it. When you use regular Dawn soap it is more like spraying the soap and business as usual. It won't break down as effectively as the power wash, still will work but not as intended. And If you keep the dawn soap thicker and spray it, this might also clog the spray nozzle. There is a recipe out there that uses certain ratio of water, isopropyl alcohol and dawn soap. That would be the cheapest alternative.

I refill mine regularly with regular dish soap (a tiny amount) and water. It doesn't foam up quite the same, but works well enough for me and is very inexpensive. After reading these comments I may try adding some isopropyl alcohol. I am really happy with refilling manually, try it.

I found a recipe that I converted to weights to use my kitchen scale... I've been quite happy with the results. 13oz water, 2oz Dawn (Ultra or Platinum preferably), 0.6oz isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

Give it a try!
