Duracell AAA and AA batteries here are mainly attractive as a free after rewards stock up, especially for buyers who can also use the purchase toward ink recycling or other Office Depot rewards redemptions. The deal can effectively turn a small out of pocket spend into store credit, and the rewards behave more like a gift card than a coupon. The big caution is leakage, with repeated reports of batteries leaking in unopened packs, in storage, and inside devices well before expiration. That makes them a better fit for low risk use or quick turnover than for anything valuable or long term.

Common Questions (4)

  • They can leak in unopened packs and in devices, sometimes years before the expiration date. The reported failures are often at the bottom of the cell and have damaged electronics, toys, and remote controls.

  • The purchase earns 100% back in Office Depot rewards, which post as store credit-like rewards that can be used later. One pack can also qualify for ink recycling rewards if you meet the $10 minimum spend, making the effective return higher.

  • Duracell can replace leaking batteries, but the process may require photos, a service-center claim, or mailing the batteries in. Some replacements are handled with a coupon for any Duracell product, while others result in a check for the purchase price.

  • Costco's 40-pack for $19.99 is cheaper per battery, but this Office Depot offer is free after rewards and can be more useful if you want store credit back. Costco also requires a membership, while the Office Depot deal can be stacked with rewards and ink recycling.

Costco offers a 40-pack of either AAA or AA batteries from the same brand for $19.99.
Last I heard Costco AA/AAA batteries also sucked and I have experienced a lot of leaks from them as well in the past... they were or are made by DuraLeak. Only Energizer or Amazon Basics for me when I still use an AA/AAA alkaline battery. I think the C's and D's are not as bad but I am still not buying any more DuraLeak alkalines.

Oh you costco people just don't quit!! THIS IS FREE AFTER REWARDS! You get your money back to spend on other items. Do you get your $19.99 at costco? NO YOU DO NOT.Please, stop with the Costco is nirvana posts. It's a crap deal IMO compared to getting 16 or 24 batts for FREE AFTER REWARDS. Not to mention. the majority of citizens DO NOT BELONG and are you going to pay $65 for a membership to get your battery deal??
Same free-after-rewards math, different logo. Deep breaths. Woosah. This turned into way more passion than AA batteries deserve.

I can see "Rewards Paid: Yes" under the rewards details, but still not paid to my account yet.

No, they always leak.
I have a hack to avoid damage from leak. First, cut up a piece of aluminum foil little bigger than the bottom. place on the bottom and wrap it up. Then wrap a tape around it to seal/secure it. Aluminum foil conducts the electricity and if it leaks, leak is contained inside the aluminum foil only. This has worked for me so far.
Sounds great and wrap it nicely with black elec tape. Do it on both the ends, correct?

I remember a while back there was a post that if you do a pickup order and pay with rewards, if you never pick up the item they will eventually send you a check in the mail. You have to wait for the refund but it's a way to turn the rewards into cash. I've always done the postage stamp thing but I'm flush with stamps right now. Anyone ever had success with the pickup order hack?

I just do the bottom. It's very rare to leak from top that isn't worth it. They almost always leak from bottom for me.

FWIW, Office Depot/Max has extended this deal to 2/21/2026.
So if you already reached the limit of 2 earlier, you will NOT be able to take advantage of the battery deal again (since it's the same deal, not a 2nd deal).

Great Deal! Had office depot price match the aa batteries with Amazon. $14.22 via chat. Pickup in-store. Waited a day and bought aaa batteries (price matched with Amazon) pickup in-store with the awarded rewards. I had to pay $.67 extra. But basically, I got 16-AA&AAA packs(2packs) for $14.22+$.67 = $14.89. Because I used the rewards the second time, I did NOT get rewards for paying with rewards, but I got 67 cents in rewards. Not Bad deal, which expires 2/21/2026.

Is there a DP that they pay the bonus every month? This is the first time they are continuously extending the promo rather than doing a new one.
