Sure. A lot of people hike in trail runners. I like the way these lace. I use a pair of similar Salomon as my primary backpacking shoe as I can get them on and off quickly for river crossings or going to pee in the middle of the night.

They have the best lacing system of any trail shoe I've used. I never want to go back to tie laces for trail running/marathons.

Salomon is a good brand (not sure if they have gone downhill)...they fit me perfectly....and I have these exact shoes for one purpose: mowing the lawn on rather steep slopes....keeps me from slipping with the aggressive widely spaced tread.
In the summer, this is my cardio...I mow my big property with a push mower, heart rate monitor, and these shoes as the workout equipment. I mow for 45 minutes, then stop....then do it again the next day...takes three days that way...amazing workout and the lawn gets done. The slopes are great for the workout, but INSANE how slippery fresh cut grass or dewey grass can be....good lord...I haven't slipped with these on, but I'd feel even better with more aggressive tread.
After three seasons, they aren't even close to being worn out.
