Curious why any of you would buy this over the counter when a prescription from a cheap telehealth doctor?

Even with no insurance, a 90 day supply from the pharmacy is about the same cost as buying a 14 day supply over the counter.

But...the "features" literally say "can also be swallowed whole with water"...so why would you do that to yourself? Stick Out Tongue

This sounds great. I get mine from places like eBay, or recently from life sciences pharmacy (for example), in bulk. Cheaper than the best on-sale deals at Costco (et.al) per pill.
Would love some more info.
Link to a cheap provider you've used.
Price of the visit (what is "cheap"?)
Qty and Price of the Rx. So we can calculate price per pill?
Are you getting 20 or 40mg dosage?
What price are you claiming is a 14-day supply over the counter for your comparison?

My insurance price per pill with a 90-day supply using an Rx is higher than eBay, Costco, etc (even when on sale).

For example: My last purchase was 600 X 20mg Omeprazole caps for $40.49. From here:
https://lifesciencespharmacy.com/...-capsules/
There was a sale which I got like $7 off. Current price is $47.84.
No Rx needed. No insurance.

I have a hiatal hernia, but I only take Omeprazole occasionally, a 14 day course like the instructions on the box. The rest of the time I use one or two pepcid AC per day. What made the biggest difference for me was losing some weight, eating healthier and cutting out added sugar and sweets. In my case, the hernia is a secondary cause, the first is inflammation caused by being overweight and eating poorly. There is a reason your stomach produces acid. It kills unhealthy bacteria and helps digest some foods. If you take Omeprazole, do so in consultation with your doctor. Personally I feel better all around when I am not taking Omeprazole.

It's bad stuff. I only take if absolutely necessary. Famotidine is less effective but not nearly as bad for you.
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) are generally safe but can cause common short-term issues like headaches, diarrhea, gas, abdominal pain, and nausea, while long-term use raises concerns for increased risk of infections (like pneumonia, C. diff), low magnesium/B12, fractures (hip, wrist, spine), and potential kidney/heart issues, though some links are debated; always use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time and consult your doctor about concerns.

I guess the information is relevant to those of us with better prescription plans than you. 90-day supply of 40mg's is $9 total for me.

Bottom line though, if you're self-medicating with these for months at a time, should probably be under the care of a doctor for it.

My friend, go to goodrx and baske in the glory of transparent negotiated consumer facing prices. Just put the drug in, the details of whatever theoretical script you want to compare and then see the major retail pharmacies prices via goodrx. You don't need insurance.

As to concerns regarding the safety profile of omperazole - I strongly disagree. Incredibly well tolerated, in fact I can confidently say I've never had a patient bri g them up to me at an appt. I would agree though regarding limited duration - the goal is to take this for roughly 2 months at a time to suppress acid synthesis and allow your stomach and esophageal mucosa to heal over, at which point diet changes weight loss and pepcid can take over. Cycling multiple times is safer than having uncontrolled GERD symptoms which cause esophageal and gastric cancers, ulcers, and a substantial amount of all GI bleeds.

I have taken these everyday for the last few years as per a doctors recommendation. Acid reflux tore my esophagus and I had to get emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding.
Stay away from these, I accidentally bought this kind one time and had to throw them out. Not worth saving a few bucks for these.

wow, perfect timing, just closing my s&s month and was low on acid reflux meds.
i uses these a few times a week if it feels like my stomach is going to keep me up.
i've tried all the ppi otc meds, and they seem to benefit me just the same
so i swallow whatever is cheap. i try to avoid using by simply eating earlier in the day.
my blood work came back slightly magnesium deficient, which is common at my age,
so i take a magnesium glycinate supplement daily.

Thanks for that idea. But it doesn't help my case.
I am already a member at, and can use GoodRx. Not even close to the price I can already get, from any of their listed pharmacy options, regardless of insurance discounts- or no ins.

I am not paying for their Gold membership. Not enough savings or rewards vs cost.
My insurance charges me $26.71 for 90 pills, for reference. So yes, I can pay less than that without insurance there, but not beating 600 caps for $47, from anywhere I can find.
