It's a Straight Talk phone same as if you bought it from ST. Activate however you want.
($25 plan is for unlocked BYOP, not locked ST models).
Thank you for the confirmation. I will go ahead and order from WM. I was going to get one from Costco for $599 - $100 Costco GC after a few months.

Effective immediately, the Trump Administration's FCC has approved Verizon's petition to end automatic unlocking of smartphones offered by Verizon and its MVNO's, including Total Wireless and TracPhone. Verizon is expected to return to a one year of service requirement. Consumer groups opposed the move but were rebuffed by the Republican majority on the Commission.

So what happens now to everyone that bought this but hasn't passed 60 days? They still covered because they bought the phone prior to this?

Cricket unlocking policy is 6 months of paid so that's a good option. They do have a $15. month plan with unlimited talk/text and 1GB of data. The 16e is $49.99 plus 2 months @$60=$120 + $50 so $170. total with porting in.

Yes, new policy only affects phones purchased after ruling was announced yesterday. At least the govt gave us that.

This is going to basically kill any Total Wireless/Straight Talk deals if they go 6 months or a year. Its TBD what the new unlock time is going to end up being.

Good luck on that someone sued them last year because changed unlock policy after purchase same iphone 16e and still refused to unlock the phone without paying for 2nd month. They did offer him full MSRP $599 settlement instead of unlocking the phone.

I bought 16e on Jan 11 and was suppose to be pick up ready on Jan 12. However, the pick up was unable so got the phone delivered today. The article says any device activated prior to today will unlocked after 60 days. I will return the phone....

Based my experience activation date starts on the day they ship and not on the day you activate. Nevermind, earlier activation date was for android phones. But, iPhone 16e has actual activation date.
