I bought a few of these generic chinese-cloned surge protectors and opened one to find that it has half as many varistors, the element that does the surge protection, as another reputable american brand with half the Joule rating. The entire circuit board looks very cheap. I no longer trust these. Ask yourself how these chinese brands can offer twice to three times the protection rating at 1/2 to 1/4 of the cost.

I have 3 of these. Actually very convenient in form factor/size as well as the options for USB and power through put. While Anker isnt the cheapest option, their warranty (if within the time period) is very easy for replacement. However, ive had a few instances where ive been outside the warranty by a short period and they wouldnt do anything at all.
I own a ton of Anker products, and this looks like a decent deal (although it has sold for less) on a good power strip with the desirable outlet/usb combo, but I don't know that I would trust it as a surge protector - I can't find info on clamping voltage anywhere (and would think Anker would put the info out there if the clamping was something good like 300/400/400), and the 2,000j rating is not particularly robust. Still, the flat plug is nice and it is Anker.

Great to know. Thanks!!
I have several Anker products (chargers, cables, etc.), but I now have a strong suspicion that they're simply living off an OLD and outdated reputation while still charging premium prices for many items.
This was my savior for my Christmas tree lights. We had 4 Twinkly strands with the star and all of their plugs are with a huge block right at the socket. The spacing, orientation, and compactness of this power strip was perfect...option B was a long industrial looking power strip.

Wold you recommend monoprice surge protector? https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15870
Seems like a clone of APC.
Also what surge protector do you recommend with high Joules and low clamping voltage?
I contacted Anker support and they confirmed the clamping voltage on this model is 1200V. That's effectively useless. I'd avoid this if surge protection is your goal.
I tend to buy Anker and other known-name products over the less expensive keyboard-smash-name products, but I don't think there is one testimony here that's not a shill or paid commenter.
