To improve taste and balance pH, an alkaline filter is added as a final stage in some RO systems. This filter reintroduces essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium into the water. Doing so raises the pH to a more neutral or slightly alkaline level (typically 7.0–8.5), enhances flavor, and gives the water a smoother mouthfeel.
In short, the alkaline filter prevents flat water by restoring minerals removed during RO filtration, making the water more pleasant to drink and less acidic.

Here's a free water test I've used for 12 years or so for a good starting point. Not by all means has everything but it's free. https://aquascience.net/free-water-test/
I've installed a standard 10" tank Ispring kit 14 years ago for my parents, and eventually added the alkaline stage for taste only. Water was having a flat tasting and was contributing to stomach pain in myself. Water improvement imho.
In my own home ( well water) I did a more complete water test and built a whole home filter system based on the contaminants. Which were low manganese, high hardness and some TDS.
Spin down, 20" particulate, 20" carbon, and fine mesh softener.
So do a water test and figure out what you need. If you don't want to do the research throw your report in AI chat or get a free consultation with a water company and do the work your self. Plenty of online resources on how to maintenance and lots of places to buy bulk filters for cheap if it's a standard size.
don't @ me....
Wait... never mind. I need more caffeine before I start posting...
RO water is "dead". Asian countries of energy focused people do not agree with consuming this.
(500 - 50) / 500 = 90%.
90% is your RO rejection rate, which is good. I would say anything above 80% is acceptable for home RO system.
Make sure you change the pre-filters and post-filters once a yeart so RO membrane doesn't get etching out by chlorine in the tap water. And you are golden! There is no need to change RO membrane unless you see the rejection rate drops or the production drops.

But tankless systems have their own issues as well. Please look up "TDS Creep". It's a lot to explain and I'm not capable of typing it out. Sorry!
If you don't need the boost pump, just don't hook it up. But you could potentially install a mechanical permeate pump to decrease the waste:pure ratio without electricity.
Also, keep in mind that pure RO water is actually slightly acidic, so you should not run it through any metallic lines once it is filtered: it can leach the metals and eventually cause the pipe walls to degrade and leak.
