Monitors of this size really need a curve of some degree.

I disagree. I was daily driving a 27" mini led 180hz, hated curved monitors, been daily driving this thing for over a year. Love it. Need a few wide screen mods for repo/lethal, certain games, but with a 3080ti 3440x1440 at 155hz and IPS is great. Love it for multiple windows, have it on the wall in front of my desk on a vesa wall mount. No complaints.

Depends on the use case. I'm sure I'm not normal in how I see this, but I look at this as "Hey this would make one hell of a virtual pinball playfield"...

Of course you would have to custom build such a cabinet...

I agree. I have a 40" monitor before that is flat and I can't even see the side scroll bar. I have to move myself left and right to see things.

Now all my big monitors have a slight curve, yes slight curve.

Would this work well for dual use (work + entertainment)?

Only if you like to move your head back and forth constantly all while working. The impact is even worse when working if you use the full width, eg splitting windows. At this size, buy a slightly curved unit. Or, you can buy this panel and test for yourself. Maybe your monitor sits further from your eyes than a typical use scenario.

Thank you for the details. This lets others know that you sit further from the monitor than a typical setup. As a consequence, the effective size of your "40"" monitor is probably closer to sub 35". It's akin to saying "but I watch my 98" tv perfectly fine without a curve" (12 feet away).

Whether its curved or flat, far or close, to each his own. It's a preference. What works for some, may not work for others. You won't know until you use it for few days. Just from a price point, it seems to be a decent deal for the size and specs despite being factory reconditioned.
Just bought one to see whether this will work too. All my monitors (27" 32" 34") are flat as I prefer it to be flat and works for me.

I disagree. I got rid of 34" curved monitor specifically because it was curved. Just made my vision feel weird and uncomfortable. I have the monoprice version of this monitor now and it is excellent.

My reply got deleted. Long story short, my and my wife's comparison of 34" flat, 1800R and 3800R monitors for work only use (reading/writing) resulted in an easy choice for the 1800R. Perhaps the 34" you used had too much curvature (which I agree is perhaps an acquired experience). What was the curvature of the monitor you had?

I currently use a 45" 800R monitor. All monitors positioned on a desk.

But it's definitely something each user can, and should, compare for themselves.

It was a while ago, but I believe it was the MAG342CQR. Which is 1500R. But any curve at all for me is a no go.

I got one of these on sale at Microcenter about half a year ago for a similar price. I agree it is too wide for a standard depth desk. It also died on me to a black screen and despite being under warranty, it was too expensive to send back for replacement compared to just buying a new curved monitor. Anything over 32" really needs a slight curve for you to see what is going on with a normal depth desk.

Could work well for a racing sim setup for the price vs. an expensive curved screen if you're not going triple monitors...just a thought there.
