Edifier MR3 is a compact powered studio monitor pair that stands out for desktop listening, easy Bluetooth streaming, and strong value at this price. The speakers sound very good for the money, take up hardly any space, and can work well with a PC, DAC, or turntable preamp through their analog inputs. Bluetooth quality is described as close to wired, and the Edifier app adds a low pass filter and saved equalizer settings over Bluetooth. The main limits are modest bass and near field output, so larger rooms or phono setups may want a subwoofer or bigger speakers.

You need something like a DAC that has RCA connections in and a USB out.

I have a JDS Lab Element hooked up to my PC with my edifier speakers and headphones connected to it.
I think you mean the signal flow reversed. This is backwards. A DAC has USB in (from PC) and RCA out (to speakers), not the other way around.

Dang, was trying to avoid having to buy any more components. If that's the case that a DAC is necessary, I think I'll have to pass. I was thinking about using the headphones 3.5mm connection, but wasn't sure if there is full audio transmission (for positional audio for gaming and so forth) that way. I know there are limitations in quality for bluetooth but not sure for the 3.5mm connection.
You absolutely don't need a DAC to connect these to a PC. The MR3 has multiple analog inputs including RCA, TRS, and AUX. You can simply use a 3.5mm to RCA cable from your motherboard's audio output, or 3.5mm to dual TRS. Most motherboards have built-in DACs that work fine for these speakers.

If it creates a hum then I would be out completely lol. I absolutely hate unnecessary sounds in my audio. USB would be the only clean way then?
Overstating the hum/noise issue. Modern motherboards typically have decent audio isolation. While ground loops can occur, they're not inevitable. Also, these speakers don't have USB input at all .

The BT quality on these speakers is almost the same as through wired . Headphone jacks are not available with macs, so if you are into apple, use the Apple dongle route if you're doing any video editing, gaming, or precise audio work where latency matters. Use BT for casual music listening. The audio quality difference is academic - save the $10 dongle expense and just use BT unless latency bothers you.

Is this pair of speaker powerful enough for a medium size room (350sqft).
For a 350 sq ft room, the Edifier MR3 speakers will be adequate but not ideal - it really depends on your listening position and expectations.

The Edifier MR3s are near-field monitors.

The name itself is a clue - "MR" stands for "Music Reference" and they're marketed as studio monitors, which are designed for near-field listening (typically 2-4 feet away in a desktop/studio setup).
The specs:

18W × 2 RMS (36W total)

92.5 dB peak SPL

3.5" drivers with 1" tweeters

Frequency response down to 52Hz

What this means for 350 sq ft:

They'll work fine if:

You're sitting near-field (3-6 feet away, like at a desk)

It's background/ambient listening

Moderate volume levels are sufficient

The room has normal furnishings (absorbs sound)

They'll struggle if:

You want to fill the whole room at party volumes

You're sitting 10+ feet away

The room is empty/hard surfaces (echoes)

You want deep, impactful bass (52Hz rolloff is modest)

The real limitation: At 350 sq ft (~19' × 18'), these are fundamentally near-field monitors being asked to do far-field duty. The 3.5" drivers and 36W total power won't pressurize a room that size effectively. You'd hear them fine, but they won't have the authority or dynamics of larger speakers.

Better alternatives for 350 sq ft:

Larger bookshelf speakers (5-6.5" drivers)

Adding a subwoofer to the MR3s (helps a lot)

The Edifier MR4 or larger models

Bottom line: For desktop/near-field use in that room = great value at $100. For whole-room listening = marginal unless you add a sub.

Is there a difference in quality if you go from 3.55 to RCA versus 3.55 to the dual TRS?

My use case is going to be gaming when I don't feel like using my headphones. I'm not sure if there's a difference quality depending on the connection type

One of the best feature of this particular model is the Edifier App when connected to BT allows for a low pass filter as well and a built in Equalizer that saves directly to the speaker... still a great deal at $119 currently

I have the MR4s. They're fine computer speakers. I use mine with a sub. I would recommend using something with a bit more depth for a phono setup, but that's just me.
What would you recommend for phono setup?

Generally for a phono setup I would recommend using the largest speakers you can fit in your space, adding a standalone amp if necessary. I personally use EMP Tek towers powered by a Yamaha amp, but I realize that might not be practical for everyone.

These Edifier speakers (and the larger MR4s) are great little speakers, but they're just too small to reproduce the lower bass notes and, being designed as studio monitors, have a tendency to sound flat and dull to most. They're also designed as near-field speakers as opposed to "room-filling." I'm very happy with the MR4s as computer speakers, but I have them set at ear height, pointed toward my office chair, with the treble boosted via equalizer, and I've added a 12" sub. And they sound great in my small home office. So I'm not saying these won't work for a phono setup, only that they wouldn't be my first choice if you have more room and/or money. Just my $.02.
