I wish companies would be honest about speeds. MicroSD cards do not transfer at 5Gbps, not even close. Yes, USB 3.0 had a theoretical thoroughput of 5Gbps, but you'll likely be transferring under 100 Mbps.

So, they shouldn't put any speed limitations in their product description? The next step down in USB speed is 480Mbps. Y'all getting your bits and bytes all mixed up.

5Gbps = 625 MBps

My card's max read speeds are just under 100MBps, which is more than what USB2.0 is capable of.

Aren't there new MicroSD cards (MicroSDXC) that are capable of 100+MB/s, some claiming to push "800". But you can't get that through USB 3.0

SDExpress needs a new reader to hit the max speeds, they're backwards compatible in older readers but you'll only get UHS-I speeds.

Don't have this reader so I can't weigh in, but judging from the review screenshots this doesn't have support for SanDisk's off-spec DDR200 standard which many SD cards (SanDisk, Samsung, etc) these days use to exceed UHS-I speeds (over 104 MB/s speeds).

I have this, it's $2 more and doesn't have a dedicated microSD slot but can confirm that it supports the DDR200 spec, though I doubt it supports the even newer DDR225 spec and don't know of any that do.

Even with a USB 2.0 card reader I typically get around 240 Mbps (30 MB/s.)

With my good Lexmark USB 3.something card reader and my fastest micro-sd cards, I regularly get 70 MB/s (560 Mbps.)

It's still a far cry from 5000 Mbps, but ... way better than 100 Mbps.

I have the Kingston card reader and it's plenty fast, 250MBps+ with a fast UHS-II card, although I have to use a USB to USB-C adapter to use it with newer computers.

Not that I have tried, but this one from the same Anker brand has USB-C for the same price and seems like SD 4.0 it specifies means UHS-II. Bring advertised for phones though I don't see reviews for its speed unlike other card readers.

I have this. The only thing I ever use it for is to get videos off my dash cams. I am 100% satisfied with the speed. Of course, I don't own any others so I have nothing to compare it with.

These are junk. I've had a couple of them over the years and both died. I prefer some other card readers on SlickDeals I got at a similar price. I've got a half dozen of them under different brand names and slightly different sizes. They're long, thin, metal, with usb-a on one side and usb-c on the other side. I know one of them I have a Ugreen one and others say Beilell. They're way better than these Anker card readers.

I bought them on sale for about the same price.

I leave them in my car, to quickly transfer dashcam footage to my Google Pixel phone.
