Pulling the trigger! It's never looked better than this format. Glad I never bought the DVD's.
im This is a crazy price and this coming for someone who paid a $100 for the nightmare on elm street collection on dvd in 1999 and 79.99 on a 3 pack dvd featuring arnold [B]Schwarzenegger.plus I don't see the quality being any better since it was taking from from pre HD television film stock.

Film stock from this era is capable of resolving 4-5K, so this would be a significant increase in quality and resolution over the 480p DVDs. On top of the massive resolution improvement, UHD also has: a far better codec (MPEG2 is way worse than H265); vastly higher bit rates; superior color; and much better audio bit rates/codecs. It's not even close.
And these improvements aren't just theoretical. The reviews for the 4K set note a substantial upgrade in picture quality over the crusty old DVDs.

Regardless, nothing I've seen from the 80's in 4K looks that great compared to more modern 4K material. You really get to see the film grain. Reminds me of an expensive turntable with an expensive cartridge -- those pops and clicks you didn't hear on the cheap equipment are now very clear with higher quality equipment.
The dvds were the best way to own it if you didn't want it to be horrible pan and scanned. I'm glad they finally released in its proper format
The Blu-ray wide screen version isn't that bad. I watch more content in 4:3 than any other aspect ratio as a golden era cinemaphile but I don't think the conversion on Seinfeld isn't that bad as it isn't exactly using artistic framing for all but a few instances.
