Moto G Power 5G (2023) is the better choice if both phones cost the same. It is faster, has a sharper and smoother display, supports 5G, and going by tracfone's website, might come with 128GB storage (YMMV), so it will feel snappier now and age better with heavier apps and games.
Storage aside, AFAIK these are some additional advantages of Moto G Power 5G (2023) one Moto G Play 4G (2024):
- Much faster Dimensity 930 chip compared to the Snapdragon 680 in the Moto g Play 2024, so performance and responsiveness are noticeably better.
- Higher-resolution 1080p display with 120 Hz refresh rate, while the Moto g Play 2024 has a 720p display at 90 Hz, so text and video look sharper and scrolling is smoother on the G Power.
- 5G connectivity versus 4G-only on the Moto g Play 2024, which is better.
Yes recycled number from verizon almost all of them get spam texts that count against the 1500 usage. You can also change number to different area code by texting MINC to 611611 allows you to do it 4-5 times per year.

I need a backup phone so i grabbed this 50$ one. Don't need high end specs

the Edge gets poor reviews, especially the camera. This 2023 Power has a dim screen of 400-500 nits of brightness which is dull where the 2025 Power is 1,000. If a good camera or screen brightness is not important, it's decent deal. Note that it's likely stuck on Android 13, possible get 14.
a reviewer on amazon said his updated to 14. "Came with Android 13 but auto-updated to 14 and 128Gb storage not the listed 64Gb (bonus!)"

I bought one of these phones and had constant problems with wi-fi. It would drop a connection. Some sites would never appear in the wi-fi list. I spent hours on internet trying to solve the problem. Many others reported such problems. After about a month I gave up and bought a Samsung phone.

it will take me 2-3 years to use the 1500 minutes. data & texts will take forever. i just do the $50 1 year time renewal after the year, with tracfone. i'm obviously not a stare into your phone all day person.

Which edge gets poor reviews for the camera, 2024 or 2025? Either way, I don't think you're gonna find a new unlocked phone with a better camera than a 2024 edge for $180 ($299 - $120 trade in).
Also unless I'm missing something, you're the only one who brought up the 2025 Power, idk how thats relevant here. Unless someone can get the 2025 Power for $50 it doesn't really matter if it's better.
2025 Power is available at WM with the Cricket, but that's a 6 month unlock if that's important. Phone is free with a $40/ plan. Moto G Stylus 2025 at ST is free with their Silver plan and that has the better pOLED screen, crazy bright screen max at 3.000 which is many times brighter, and higher level of water/dust protection at IP68 and a decent camera. A step up vs the Power. No wrong choices.

Its a backup phone I dont need much. and 1500 minutes a month is alot. when it unlocks i'll add some free data provider

I've gotten these deals about every year as a backup and new phone and have yet to use much of the service at all. Easily lasts a year, usually even longer with bonus points.
But this deal isn't as good as the deal I mentioned earlier.
Did tracfone stop doing a phone with an unlimited talk/text plan and 24gb of data deals? I got one in May with a Moto G 5g with that plan and was hoping I would be able to re-up on a plan like that, as I use my phone way too much to have limited minutes and texts. But I have not seen any of those deals for like six months.
