Moto G Power 5G (2023) is the better choice if both phones cost the same. It is faster, has a sharper and smoother display, supports 5G, and going by tracfone's website, might come with 128GB storage (YMMV), so it will feel snappier now and age better with heavier apps and games.

Storage aside, AFAIK these are some additional advantages of Moto G Power 5G (2023) one Moto G Play 4G (2024):

- Much faster Dimensity 930 chip compared to the Snapdragon 680 in the Moto g Play 2024, so performance and responsiveness are noticeably better.

- Higher-resolution 1080p display with 120 Hz refresh rate, while the Moto g Play 2024 has a 720p display at 90 Hz, so text and video look sharper and scrolling is smoother on the G Power.

- 5G connectivity versus 4G-only on the Moto g Play 2024, which is better.

Yes recycled number from verizon almost all of them get spam texts that count against the 1500 usage. You can also change number to different area code by texting MINC to 611611 allows you to do it 4-5 times per year.

Snag a 2025 moto g STYLUS if you find a deal. It has the most features/tech of all these deals (5G, eSIM, NFC, wireless changing, more RAM/storage, Snapdragon 6 SoC, 6e Wi-Fi).

The 2024 g POWER is another alternative and has almost the same features, but limited to Android 15 (should not be a problem for most people - lots of older devices on the market so apps are compatible with multiple older generations of Android).

Avoid 2023/2024 g (without POWER/STYLUS) or g PLAY unless almost free. They are year+ lower-end models.
if you're getting the 2023 power as a not frequently used stationary home phone, are the end of security updates in april 2026, a big issue?

if you DON'T want to buy a phone every year and/or add minutes, texts or data (because you aren't a big phone user), just login to your account before your expiration date and add any cheap card or just add 1000 texts for $5 to your shopping cart. You need to add one of them to your cart first. Then below you should see an option to add ONE YEAR of TIME ONLY to your current expiration date. This allows you to carry over all of your current minutes/data/texts, for another year. It costs just $49 + tax for that one year time extension. This is great for those who don't want or need the data or minutes added on when you set up a new phone every year! ONE NOTE...not all phones will see this one year time addition option, but many can. Just login to your tracfone account on line (preferably on a laptop or desktop computer).
Doesn't it make more sense to just get this deal?

Mine arrived today. I don't think I have ever gotten an amazon package the next day let alone within 14 hours and I have had prime for 5+ years. It is the 128 GB model, no issues extending existing line using the website and red card. Just a note: This is faster and more responsive than my Moto G play from last year. I do love my old samsung A13, but this is about the same speed if not faster

I use junky phones like this for a long time. I totally regret it. I got a used Samsung Galaxy S21 a year back and couldn't be happier. Don't subjugate yourself to these.

yes, it's a great starting point. but, i usually keep the the phone for 2 or 3 years, then buy another new qvc/hsn tracfone deal again. in between i just do the one year time buy only, since i personally never use up the allotted years worth of min/data/texts that i've accumulated. that's basically about $175 for three years for the phone & two $50 annual renewals, or less then $5/mo. i could likely buy a new phone pkg each year, but i don't want the hassle of doing the new phone transferring every year, and the last thing i need more of is min/data/texts!

i did exactly that after many budget years, and got the samsung galaxy a26 last month and noticed how fast it is compared to the budget models. when qvc had a short term $40 off code i could apply to it, i got it for $149. it's over $230 now. for the home phone though, the budget models like the one in this thread, are perfect.

I already have Tracfone one of the Samsung A series. Can I buy this deal and use that 1 year code from that to extend my current plan on my old phone?

Half year ago I got for same money (even cheaper with new CC and promo code) Moto G 2025 from HSN, now this is $90 on QVC, again - promo code and new CC.

But remember, Lenovo own Motorola smartphone brand, phones are full of bloatware.
Need to turn off many Moto apps but 2 you can't - "Glance" and "Digital Wellbeing", so annoying.

I mean, who cares about more flexibility, security, and convenience of using your line immediately? People enjoy fidgeting with SIM cards the size of a fingernail and messing around with SIM trays every time they want to change phones/lines. And it's fun to wait for the telco to send you a SIM card before you can use your line - the anticipation makes it extra special, like waiting for a Christmas gift.
yea who cares. its a 50$ phone..you want esim you pay 600$+

I've used junky phones like this for a long time too. I do NOT totally regret it. I couldn't be happier with them, since I don't have a smartphone surgically attached to my hand at all times. Don't subjugate your wallet to expensive toys.

Remember, these phones WILL fall apart after 2-4 years -- it's literally how the term "planned obsolescence" was coined, regarding smartphones. Why spend MANY hundreds of dollars for the same core functionality that at $50 can provide? You'll be perfectly fine with a device that has 128gb of storage (or microSD equivalent) and a 5G radio.

As for the argument "but you cannot do anything on basic phones" -- mine works just fine. Calendar, to-do notes, calculator, basic web browsing, phone, texts, weather, SatNav, camera, etc. Works perfectly fine.

Just keep in mind, the more you spend on the device -- the more you load onto it -- the more you have to lose. It's a delicate piece of glass that you take everywhere with you, often 5ft+ off the ground, and it's a target for thieves and law enforcement. The LESS you put onto it, the less you have to worry about. Do your medical and banking AT HOME on your LAPTOP/DESKTOP. It's much safer that way. But explaining risk manglement and attack surfaces to someone who doom scrolls for a dopamine hit is a futile gesture.
