They have ones that claim 170 pounds! Apparently there are different magnet strengths for these. I wonder if the 40 you bought for $12 are the same strength as these.
There are standard measures, This is the exact same listing which is why I commented. The most commonly claimed ratings are N52, N42 and N35. These are likely closer to the lower end of the spectrum, but as with many neodymium magnets out of China, these are pretty inconsistent re: their strength. Good enough for some things but these are likely not going to hold more than a pound or two depending on the surface and the angle at which force is being exerted; even if these magnets COULD hold more, the hook makes it deterministic by introducing an angle at which the magnet become unusable (we hanged Xmas lights with these but had to shore them up in some places with stronger magnets).
The rated strength for most neodymium magnets coming out of China is determined using ideal circumstances with ideal surfaces made of ideal materials at ideal angles; if you factor in sketchy claims, you can usually expect a baseline of about 10% of what they claim & increase based on your particular application.
