Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

you are right twice but I have the bad experience with Mediatek CPU in Sony phone and I don't want to repeat it again. This post does not relate to this topic)))
Older MediaTeks are pretty meh. The newer 5G chips are decent.

Just pulled the trigger. A phone and a tablet plus service for a month for both. Totally worth 100 bucks. Curious about the nxt paper display technology. And as a Samsung guy I love me a stylus. Should be good to scratch that curiosity itch!
It's decent tablet, but not great. Frankly the ePaper looks like someone put a matte screen protector on the tablet. Also, for some reason amazon app won't install.

Actually, you only have to pay for one month. Let it sit unused for the second month and it unlocks. It's 60 days from initial activation. Then call (888)442-5102. That is the national unlock checker phone# to verify. You can buy in store, but they activate there. Order online and you can wait. You can also port your current Straight talk # to it, so free phone when you renew monthly subscription anyway. There's 2 models, Motorola Stylus 5g & Samsung A16 5g. I believe offer ends 01/29/26.
this is wrong information, you will need 60 days of active service. 60 days need not be continuous.

yes moto's are really bad at OS updates. this is a $399.99 phone but will get only one OS upgrade. Not sure when, in the past they would wait for the next OS version to be released and then would release the older version for there phone. My guess if they use one year older version the cost to google may go down.

It is reality. Lenovo(owner of TM Moto) does not care to much about buyers of Moto-phones - this phones is access way to USA market.

How much longer do these get OS and security updates for?

"Currently receiving regular security updates.

Device launched on March, 2025

Security updates will stop on March, 2028

Launched On: Android 15

Next OS: Android 16

*This device will receive at least bi-monthly SMRs updates

Please note: Channels and regions may have different launch dates and support cycle may vary."

So I guess 1 more OS update then just 3 years security updates.

Correct, the prepaid service is 30 days from the activation date. You are paying for 30 days of service.

Before people jump all over this question it has a point. Some people have reported having issues with the line if it's not used semi-regularly.

Also, will the unlock signal work overseas?
Yes, unlock works overseas over WiFi. I bought 2 with 1 month plan in March then left them deactivated, it was locked. Few mentioned that the 60 days does not need to be continuous. So, activated again after 8 months while the phone was overseas. It assigned new number which did not show up on the phone but the phones got unlocked with in 2 days.
