You would win but they still won't unlock the phone they instead offer full MSRP settlement to keep lawsuit quiet.

Most won't go to court, and what you get would be next to nothing. You'd probably get your 2 months of service money back and that's it.

It's the fact that that literally almost no one fights these things is the reason why Verizon can continue to get away with this type of behavior. Even if 100 people took them to court, it would be enough of a headache where they would think twice.

Sadly, that doesn't happen.

Can you buy one of those HSN/QVC 1 year Tracfone deals with phone for $30, but apply the service to this phone instead of the phone it comes with? Cheapest way to unlock via year of service?
Read the current unlock requirements, each phone needs paid service so carryover service from another phone won't apply.
BUT until they post the new policy no one knows anything about what new policy will be, everyone is just guessing at this point.

No, I did this last year and argued with them for months before giving up.

At the time the policy only said that it need to be attached to an active service for 60 days, they then later changed it to saying that the 60 days of service needed to be activated with the device in question.

Did you activate yours prior to 12:00 AM Eastern Time of Jan. 13th?

According to Ars Technica:
The terms of this waiver apply to all handsets that become active on Verizon's network beginning the day after the release date of this Order," the FCC ruling said.

Shoot I have 2 of these not activated. Sucks for me.

Understood. Thx. Do you know if I can still do the same, not to unlock the phone, but just to use it on Tracfone and with those cheap 1 yr plans?

Absolutely. I don't imagine that will change anytime soon.

I am assuming the worst based on another post regarding the change to 2 months.
Do you know if I can rebrand this phone and just use it on Tracfone at least? Can you transfer those discounted 1 yr Tracfone plans to another ph after activation?

Dam, I activated my 2 stylus25s in Jan1. Is it safe to rebrand to Tracfone after my 30days of ST and get 1 month of Tracfone for my 60days?

I should receive them tomorrow, but will be returning them since this unlock issue happened yesterday. Has anyone had issues returning phones from straight talk?

No one knows if they will even let you rebrand anymore, there are several recent reports of reps telling customers they can't do it.
Might be poorly trained reps, might be a misunderstanding - but right now everything is pretty much YMMV. Things are changing - for the worse.

Don't think you can get the plans refunded though right?

That's been their policy (in the offer details) for years.
Option might be if you refuse delivery (get a receipt) your credit card will refund when you dispute the charge?

Actually, they did with the April 1 policy. It wasn't posted until after April 1. I got caught up in the change. One of the contemporaneous threads will confirm it. I want to say it was posted about a week or so later. I activated my phone on Feb 13 and had to buy the 2nd month of service.

2 of my phones got affected and had to reactivate for additional month to get them unlocked. Hope that is not the case this time, I have 3 especially one is 16e.

Do not return. Phone/plan gets activated on the day they ship. So, probably on the good side or worst case 2 wifi phones for $75+tax or able to recover by reselling

Not true.
Phones are not automatically activated at shipping. User has to activate to get a number according to their zip code.
Once phone has actually shipped a user can sometimes activate using website before receiving phone and get activation/unlock time started a few days early (that option is not always available for everyone).
