Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

No one so far has mentioned that if you have tracfone service, you can get a $15 a month discount on your pre-existing FiOS Internet account for as long as you have both plans bundled together. Tracfone is now part of Verizon Total.

I just read through every post here and just want to confirm/clarify a few things, (apologies up front!)

Straight Talk offers a "Free" Moto G Stylus 2025 with the purchase of a at least a "Silver" service plan that retails for $45 (without Auto-Pay), for one month.

If I don't renew after that period, this phone will remain locked regardless of the recent ruling. But the takeaway is basically $45 for a modern day iPod Touch, (free to use on Wi-Fi or offline mp3, camera, etc).

If I re-up for a second 30 day plan, (as cheap as the Bronze package at $35 without AutoPay), the phone might unlock and could be moved to basically any carrier.

If Verizon enforces the ruling from Jan 12th and requires a one year waiting period, does this constitute 1 year of service or just 1 year after activation?

From the ArsTechnica article [arstechnica.com]:
Quote :
The FCC today granted Verizon's petition for a waiver of the 60-day unlocking requirement. While the waiver is in effect, Verizon only has to comply with the CTIA trade group's voluntary unlocking policy. The CTIA policy calls for unlocking prepaid mobile devices one year after activation, while devices on postpaid plans can be unlocked after a contract, device financing plan, or early termination fee is paid
.

I think I like the idea of a household iPod Touch for under $50, but just trying to see if this would eventually become unlocked as spare/backup phone a year from now if I should find myself in a bind.

Any insight is appreciated!

So you activated with straight talk then swapped to your visible sim? Thanks!
Yes, I activated the phone with Straight Talk and then switched to a Visible SIM card. It works perfectly.

No one knows yet. I anticipate it will be like the Metro policy which is 12 months from activation. No requirements of 12 months service. We'll see.

Even no unlock, it is still a good price for $40 out the door.

So you think it will work with any TracFone family phone (TracFone, Net10, Total Wireless, ST, SafeLink, Telcel America, Simple Mobile and Page Plus) regardless of lock or unlock?

Paid off devices will get unlocked after 60 days. Nothing changes for paid off devices. Devices on a payment plan will get unlocked once they have been paid off.

There are many helpful comments, but I'm having trouble understanding them. Could someone please summarize the pros and cons of this deal for me? We already have a T-Mobile plan and will continue using it. I'm looking to get two phones with new numbers specifically for emergencies, and I might consider switching to prepaid in the future (hopefully after 90 days of activation), as I want to eliminate monthly fees. Alternatively, I might add one line to my current T-Mobile account using this phone. Thank you for your insight!

You are NOT going get a requested summary from volunteer users without incentives. No way! You're better off asking the paid SD staff lol

False. Devices you get from prepaid carriers are already paid off but will no longer unlock after 60 days like in the past. Will most likely be 12 months now.

It's likely these phones will work if they operate on the Verizon network but there's no guarantee.

It is hard to advice without knowing how much you are spending on you plans and the benefits you are getting from TMo.
About this Deal.
Pros:
2 mid range phones for $75 deal considering their MSRP is $399 each.
At the time of this deal posting, STs phones would unlock after 60 days of paid service. By spending another $75, one would get 2 unlocked phones for total of $150.
Good WiFi device even if not unlocked.
Cons:
On 01/13, FCC lifted the 60 days unlock restriction for Verizon. So, phones purchased here after might have unlocking policy for more months (up to 12 months) which Verizon is yet to announce. In April 25, they changed from 30 days to 60 days and even enforced on phones bought before the policy announcement.
ST prepaid plans are not cheap so not worth buying these phones to use with other carriers.

If you want comparable unlocked phones, get Moto G Power 2024 from BB for $105 with Visible plan bundle.
