Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Is it still worth getting if I haven't bought the phone yet, looking for this to be unlocked
Can't decide that for you.
Right now no one knows what the new policy might be or when it will officially go into effect. They're known for previously pulling shady stuff (last April) so I'm not convinced they will do the right thing this time.

My Moto G Stylus 2025 purchased in Nov has successfully unlocked. I purchased first month on Straight Talk as part of the initial order, waited in Dec with no service, and rebranded to Tracfone in Jan and just now started the $15 one month service (declined autopay discount). Phone has unlocked since I fulfilled the two conditions: 60ish days passed since service activation and I purchased 2 months of service on the Tracfone family brands.

Guide for rebranding to Tracfone

Centers operate from 8 AM to 11:45 PM (EST) 7 days a week.
1-800-867-7183
Total Time: 15 min call
Have your ST phone turned on, and call from a different phone if your ST service is inactive.

Hold for English
Phone Number: Don't Have One
IMEI: Don't Have One
You need Phone Number or IMEI: Agent
Try this again: Agent
One last time: Agent

To the agent: Hi ____, can you please rebrand my Straight Talk phone to Tracfone so I can use Tracfone service?

Agent will ask for IMEI of ST phone and last 4 digits of the SIM card. They will send a 2FA verification pin to the ST number, which you can get even without active service. They will offer you to choice to keep the ST number or get a new number (I kept mine, not sure if it matters). After they complete rebranding, they will move on to activating service with the phone. You can activate with the agent or activate yourself (tell them you have a service card at home / away from you or make up another excuse).

My phone didn't automatically unlock on day 60 and 2 service months purchased even though the Tracfone unlock portal confirmed it was eligible for unlocking. I tried other SIMs, tried wifi, waited a couple of days, nothing worked. Before calling Tracfone, I decided to factory reset my phone since I debloated all of the crap apps. Upon the first start, with only cell service, the phone showed unlocked in settings. So if you debloated and confirmed that your Tracfone is eligible for unlocking but it hasn't unlocked, you may have to factory reset.
Last year, I only need to do one month straight talk and then day 70 rebranded to tracfone paid one month and unlocked 2nd day. It was >= 60 days from 1st activation + 2 paid month services. This has changed?

If they were smart, they would make it effective 2/1/26. I will wait and see what happens before I pay for a 2nd month.
I don't see any change in their unlock policy yet. Of course that doesn't mean they can't or won't change the policy to apply retroactively to the date of the FCC order.

But remember that Verizon back in 2019 had one of the most notorious unlock policy's of all carriers requiring the phone to be paid off before unlocking.

They might implement the unlocking policy for prepaid devices differently after the FCC order.

Anyone know if I can drop the 2nd month of service to a cheaper plan? What would be the cheapest plan that could potentially get this phone unlocked?

yes, any plan will work. Their cheapest plan is Bronze at $35. If you wait until the last week before your current plan expires, they will often text you a $10 discount.

Straight Talk has never had selfie/id requirement - that's Total Wireless.
BTW the company Total Wireless uses for id verification was recently hacked, got notified a few days ago.

Every recent ST deal has users mentioning this, it's just another screw up in the system. Phone receipt shows you purchased 30 days with the phone & your account should show activation date if there's any question.
I just activated mine online (Jan 19) and it shows payment are due on/before Feb17. If counting Jan 19 and Feb 17, it is 30 days. I guess that is how they count the 30 days?
But my account indeed says 28 days left.

It's seem to be a Samsung oled, almost as good as my S20U. Camera is ok, use gcam apk would speed things up. It's take better photo then my S20U. But my S20U has real zoom. It's snappy for most people, I felt some lag, but it's a $50 ish phone. Also has micro SD. Storage speed isn't the fastest. Tablet... That's a POS, but for $50. I'll take it. Good enough for YouTube in kicthen or display for my home camera setup.

Does straight talk have a stay connect talk and text 10$ plan like total wireless through chat? Or better to just rebrand it?

The same happened with me - 28 instead of 30!

I don't think so we have such options with Straight Talk.
