Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

I tried twice to buy this deal (Jan 17th and Jan 20th) and both times they cancelled my order. On January 21st, I tried again, and this time the deal went through. I'm assuming that happened because of the transition to their new unlocking policy, but on the bright side, and if anyone is interested, I got both phones for only $45 ($30plan + $15 plan) instead of $75.
Where is the $30 or $15 plan? The cheapest plan I see is $35 for my 2nd month.

He probably already had straight talk service, so adding more lines would be cheaper.

unfortunately I am in the ordered phone --> waiting to get it --> not activated category. Will an FCC complaint help that the policy was revised after purchase?
Likely not. I filed two complaints last April and spent hours on the phone to argue and they could not even get a second month properly provisioned after I gave up for some strange reason. Likely some account flag. Since the phones and activation/unlock status were a bit in limbo I did not feel comfy selling them to someone, so I traded them in brand new to Samsung for one of their Certified Renewed deals as "other Android" for $300 value. So, if you don't know what else to do with these phones, that can also be an option.
The FCC does not really get involved, they just facilitate the communication and forward your complaint to the carrier. The TF customer service on 3 occasions with 3 different agents promised they would fix it, it would take a few days, and that they would call back in x days, and never did. Then I thought enough and traded them in, so they are likely already back in circulation hopefully unlocked and as certified refurbished grade A, haha. You cannot win on every deal I thought and did a few others then. Well, now these days are gone.

If you don't want them you can refuse the unopened shipment by taking them to a UPS Store.
Fine print says they don't refund service plans and phone is free so did you get your money back?

I didn't really understand why myself, but since I did have a straight talk service plan for an earlier moto g stylus I bought about a month ago, that may be the reason why I got the discount

Yeah, seems to be a discount on multiple lines.

I'm in a similar situation, but would need to get a Samsung for my 2nd phone. Debating if I even want them at $45 + tax... not entirely sure I have a need for them or what their resell value (if any) may be.

Already have a pile of phones, including the previous stylus deal + tablet, and the 2024 stylus.

I haven't tried it but that's the advice of customer service when people tried to cancel their orders before shipping.

This is a gr8 piece of advice and goes way beyond just this specific phone context.
Signature based deliveries are easy to refuse since one needs to interact with the driver but simple drop offs are the tricky ones, and knowing that they can be brought to any UPS store for refusal has saved me restocking fees more than once.
No, refusing delivery at the UPS store is very YMMV. I tried that before with Tracfone, and UPS failed to return to sender. First UPS store refused to accept the package because the staff didn't know how to return to sender. Second UPS store also refused at first, but relented since I was a mailbox holder. Wrote on the shipping label in big letters: Refuse delivery, return to sender. 3 days later the same package with the same label with my handwriting showed up on my doorstep. I gave up after that.

I tried to re route a UPS delivery once - Rock Auto shipment to outside CA to inside CA.. It would have required additional shipping charges equal to the cost of shipping a new package. I remember that UPS does not offer return shipping,..I was told that the customer had to pay to return the item and that was years ago.

"This is not Amazon" and "We are not USPS" would be my thoughts right now.

Times do change, good luck if you want to refuse shipment, but you won't get plan cost refunded per their website and since the phone was free, all we can do is hope for some wild ebay unlocker based in another country to go to bat for us. Heh Heh

TF/ST/TW reps often say things to get people off the phone so I don't trust them since written policy has always said no refunds for service plans.
Can anyone confirm they got a full refund from refusing delivery for a TF, ST, or TW free phone and paid plan? I hesitate to recommend buyers try it without knowing that it works, might make more sense to just keep the phone.

Rerouting is not the same as refusal. Commercial shipper will often disallow rerouting due to fraud.

It's actually on UPS's site you can refuse a delivery.

People on Straight Talk groups have reported refusing delivery and getting a refund, but YMMV.

It looks like Straighttalk requires 365 days of service for unlock (NOT 60 days anymore) - https://www.tfwunlockpolicy.com/wps/portal/home. Could someone confirm if this is correct? See the last point:
"For all cellphones Activated on or after January 20, 2026, the cellphone will be unlocked upon request after 365 days of paid and active service."
