Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

I notice this phone is slow after using watching online short video for a while. I had to restart the phone so often.
Hate to state the obvious but that's definitely not normal. If that was happening on my phone, I would do a full factory reset and start from scratch myself.

Kicking myself for not stocking up on these as backups. The days of getting decent new phones very cheaply are over now from what I can tell with the new 365 day rule.

I bought two of these on 11/30. My two months of service ended on 2/1 and both of my phones show "Network Lock: Unlocked" under "Device Details" when I just checked today on 2/2.
Great! Thank you.

One of my phones unlocked today after 1 month of straight talk and one month of TracFone cheapest plan. I never did any official rebranding just bought a month of TracFone and downloaded a esim for it and my phone unlocked after 30 days. PS I don't have the original straight talk SIM in my phone so I don't think that has to be done.
Interesting. The cheapest TracFone plan seems to be $10/mo. I can save $30 for 2 phones. Very Tempting...

Just switch main cell service to Visible the phones work locked they sell same model. You can upgrade every year from straight talk phones.

So is it not necessary to rebrand the phone ST to TracFone? Did you put the IMEI1 or IMEI2 when registering the phone? Is it safe to enable autopay so its $10 and just cancel after 1 month? My ST month ends tomorrow, and I will try this method out.
Only if you are making less than $5 an hour! I heard once you enable auto fill, you have to call to cancel it and that may take hours. Perhaps use a virtual card number and disable it after your auto fill payment goes through?

But you got lucky in picking up months with 31 days!!

From grok ai:

Based on Straight Talk's unlocking policy (which applies to its parent company Verizon Value's prepaid brands, including TracFone), phones activated on the Verizon network before January 20, 2026, are eligible for automatic unlocking 60 days after paid activation, provided there has been paid active service and no flags for fraud, loss, or theft.390cfe 71c0e4 2a6a8a 9567a6 This 60-day timer starts from the original activation date on Straight Talk and isn't reset by internal transfers.
Since Straight Talk and TracFone are sibling brands under the same corporate umbrella, transferring (or "porting") your number and service from Straight Talk to a TracFone plan on the same phone is essentially an internal rebranding or plan shift, not a true port to a different carrier.f7ef57 User reports confirm that doing this after 30 days of Straight Talk service (e.g., switching to TracFone's basic $15/month plan) allows the device to still unlock automatically at the 60-day mark from the initial activation, as long as the total paid active service across the brands meets the threshold and the phone remains in use.0523df 82b567 01f7ef In some cases, phones have even unlocked at 60 days despite service lapsing or being inactive after the first 30 days, suggesting the policy enforcement focuses more on the activation timer than strict continuous activity.18658b
To make the switch:
Contact Straight Talk/TracFone support via chat or phone (1-877-430-2355) to request rebranding the device to TracFone while transferring your number and any remaining service balance.
Activate the cheapest TracFone plan (e.g., their $15 basic talk/text/data option) on the same phone.
Avoid third-party unlocking services, as eligible devices unlock remotely and automatically—no code needed.
Keep in mind that for any activations on or after January 20, 2026, the policy shifts to requiring 365 days of paid active service before unlocking is possible.4c6d4e 819973 If your phone was activated recently, confirm its eligibility by checking the IMEI on Straight Talk's unlock portal or calling support.407ec2 If it doesn't unlock as expected, reach out to their dedicated unlocking team for manual review.

If you're not aware, the Straight Talk plans are for 30 days of service increments so I'm not sure how the number of days in any particular month actually matters for the unlock.

I purchased and activated two phones in December 2025, but I allowed service to lapse in January 2026. If I reactivate service, will the phones still unlock by March 2026? Can I safely rebrand them to Tracfone and use one of their plans without affecting the unlocking process?

Yes to both of your questions. I waited nearly 28 days after my first month of service was over to buy another month and the cool thing is my phone unlocked after the 60 days from the original activation

You could have waited for two more days and see if it would unlocked without paying for the second month's service - that was the old policy. 😊

I could have but I didn't. I panicked because of the new policy and just added a month. My first phone I bought a month of TracFone service about 4 days after my first month with straight talk ended and my phone unlocked according to the original activation dates 60 days so 4 days early on the TracFone month.

You had to activate by Jan 20 for 60 day unlock, else its 365 day unlock
