A decent deal on a Squire.
SSS for single coil sound. Maple neck. I got a seafoam about 10 years ago, for around the same price. Decent neck. Nice low price makes later modifications easy. You might want to change the nut, shield the pickup cavity, and swap the tuners. I have other guitars, so I haven't bothered. Like any new guitar, you'll want it set up. Comes with a cable.

Is this a rebranding of the bullet and/or affinity series? (I don't recall which one was the beginner/entry level series)
The Sonic series actually replaced the Bullet series as the entry level for Squier, and while the Debut series is technically lower than that, it doesn't really count because it's in a league of its own as an Amazon exclusive series.

I haven't played this line from Fender, but the fact that they specify it's a "beginner" guitar makes me think it's not something worth upgrading. A standard Squier makes for a good project guitar, though.

Fender is doing this line to market to students/beginners to get a foot in the door. Probably a good idea. Wish they had a line like this when I started playing decades ago. Back then cheap guitars were unplayable and your only other choice was a used expensive guitar.

Could be the perfect platform to learn how to mod your instrument on though. The low cost means less need to care if you don't get things perfect when you're still learning.

Yeah, but if it's something you plan on playing a lot, you should start with something decent.
These are Fender's effort to compete with the entry level guitars that are sold online. The idea is to offer these directly to the consumer to keep the price down. They are excellent first guitars and they are a relative bargain for the Fender / Squier brand.

I will say the intonation was spot on unlike the budgets I have bought. Light, nice neck,, using as a mod platform and it's gonna work perfectly
