This is a more premium build than the Gigabyte for $260 at Best Buy. It has a metal backplate, a retention clip, and three fans. MSI offers better support and quality than Gigabyte. This card is a step above the entry level MSI Shadow, which is already better than the entry level Gigabyte WINDFORCE.

With Nvidia raising prices next month and throughout the year, it's going to be hard to find a better deal on a mid-range card than this or the Gigabyte. Forget about 16gb at this price point. Nvidia is expected to cut consumer GPU production by up to 50%. AI demand isn't going away.

Edit: It says x16, but as with all these cards it only utilizes 8 lanes

MSI's Ventus 3X 5060 is being framed as a cooler, quieter take on the RTX 5060, with the larger heatsink, metal backplate, and third fan expected to cut noise and throttling while leaving some overclocking headroom. The card is also described as a solid fit for local AI image work and general entry level use, and the resale value may hold up better than cheaper alternatives. The main knocks are price, since the extra fan and build upgrades may not justify a $30 to $40 premium over lower tier 5060s, and the 8 GB memory starts to look thin as prices climb. The PCIe 5.0 x16 listing is also misleading, since the card runs at PCIe 5.0 x8.

Bought the 260 version from BB. It works great for entry level.

If you are going $290 may as well go for a $360ish 9060 16 GB. More bang for bit more $$. You arent going to get $30-40 of value for a 3rd fan.

It's not like this is a 400W monster that needs a 3rd fan and a huge backplate.
It's more than a third fan, it's also a metal backplate and a better heatsink. You should get less throttling or noise and/or higher overclocking potential, plus better reliability. AMD is fine for gaming, although Nvidia drivers are better. More importantly, a lot of professional software requires CUDA, especially in scientific research, so AMD isn't an option for some of us.

At $30 difference it's a tough call for the same GPU, but the price delta between the ventus and the entry tier MSI 5060 is usually $50+. Then you're comparing it to the Gigabyte discount because they've ruined their reputation with poor quality control and not honoring their warranties. Their failure rates for GPUs are among the highest, and turnaround times are the worst. They also deny valid claims more aggressively than most. The delta between the mid tier MSI and the low tier Gigabyte should be $80. If you care about reliability, temps, noise, customer support, and resale value, this is the better deal, but they're both well under MSRP and a good deal. For me, the $30 is cheap insurance against up to 5% failure rates for Gigabyte vs likely less than a 1% chance the Ventus fails on me in five years. Getting a somewhat better performing card is just a bonus.

Where are you seeing a 9060 for $360-ish? Other than Microcenter*.

*who in their infinite wisdom decided Charlotte made more sense to open a location, not Raleigh where pretty much every large scale software / tech company in NC is based out of. Epic, Redhat, SAS, Apple, Cisco, Google, IBM, etc. Yet we have zero (decent) B&M computer stores since Tiger Direct closed....and TD didn't count as decent but at least they had some stuff.

Traditionally they have been around that every once in a while. Looks like they are closer to $400 now unless you get refurbished. Hopefully they come back down at the egg, or BB.

Still wouldn't pay that much for a 3rd fan. But I only was looking at this card for my kids rig.

You'll pay more than $30 for the insurance that you should be getting on that Gigabyte GPU because they don't honor their warranties.

People should understand that prices aren't fluctuating, they're increasing. The normal deals aren't coming back this year. Maybe when the 60 series comes out there will be some good deals on the 50 series, but I wouldn't even count on that.

Why would your GPU die? I've been building PCs for 20+ years I've never had a GPU fail. I currently game on an EVGA 3060 TI I bought during COVID. It cost me $550 at the time and I had to be on a wait list for 6 months lol good times y'all spoiled
can GPU have RAM failure? I have been having occasional windows shutdown bsod and it all refers to memory issue... I already RAM test it and it passed, and the only other HW that has RAM is the GPU, but I don't know how to test RAM on GPU...

It is possible for the memory on a GPU to fail, although I have never seen that happen.

However, that doesn't sound like the issue you are having from your brief description. That sounds like something to do with system memory.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out. Those deals might be long gone though.

FWIW, I think the larger formfactor was worth it. IMO the extra fan is just small piece of the pie, the overall larger / most robust build, much bigger heat sink, etc are the real pluses. Especially if you plan to run the fans as quite as possible (which is my goal). 2 vs 3 fans is a huge sound difference (while still maintaining similar CFM) and adding more case fans won't help lower GPU heat (directly) nor will it normally make the rig quieter unless you get airflow just perfect. With the larger GPU cooling footprint you can typically manage 1/2 (or lower) the RPM's while still maintaining, or beating the temps of the 2 fan version. Also provides a lot more headroom for OC'ing without adding 3rd party coolers. I don't plan to OC but others might. My case is also fairly big so I don't care about compactness.

Thanks, I saw a deal posted a week or so ago for $330 but there weren't any in my area. I'm going to keep an eye out though. Even if I find something later I can also resell this GPU no problem with the price hikes.

That sounds like your ram sticks aren't seated right or maybe try switching the channel they are mounted in. I had a mobo that got shorted once and if you put the ram in certain slots the computer would act up similar to what you describe. I don't think it's your GPU. If it was you probably would t get any display at all.

@gameson, that could be anything. Faulty hardware, driver issue, bad overclock, a ton of other things.

Since the failures are intermittent, have you tried booting your PC clean and loading up a stress test to see what causes the failure most aggressively? i.e. Run a memory pressure test, if that passed run a CPU stress test and if that passed try a GPU stress test.

Although, I am not sure a slickdeals thread is the best place to get help with your PC issues.
