This comes out to be 67 cents per lb.

The current Walmart deal on a pair of 25-lbs BalanceFrom / Everyday Essentials bumper plates (reportedly the exact same plates as these under different brand names) cost $24 for a black pair or $27 for a green pair, i.e. 48 cents per lb for the comparable black ones.

Is there any difference? I'm new to building my home gym and it seems that the 45-lb / 20-kg plates tend to be a lot more expensive than any other weight as they are considered to be the standard plates globally.

Walmart also has a pair of 55-lb colored (red) plates for $79.

Which ones would you go for and why? (I'm partial to color coded pates but black is not a deal breaker for me.)

Walmart. Better return policy, better pricing, better deal. You can always add 25s and 10 bumper plates. If you're new to a gym they are preferable to 45s. 45 plates are for power lifters. Go with Walmarts deals and don't worry about color coding etc

They're only the standard plates because of power lifters. It's much easier to add and remove 25, 10s etc unless you plan on squatting and bench pressing 225-315lbs or more regularly then you'd go for 45s. Otherwise go with Walmart

I am getting the 45s to complete my second set of 10-45. I do recommend getting at least one pair of 45s. To me, it is a lot easier to load one 45 than 2 25s. And it is actually not that hard to bench or squat 2 45s (135lbs with the barbell). Most people get past that fairly quickly even with no prior gym experience.
