I prefer to have my info on my PC not on some cloud server somewhere where it could be hacked and/or sold. Peace of mind is worth it to me.

I believe NY requires free efile. I normally get the Deluxe + state but does anyone know if buying just the Deluxe (without state) will work and when the prompt appears for State, i select NY and it will be free?
No, they will charge you for the state software. Normally state e-file also has a charge, but you will have that part waived in NY.

When most people can file their taxes online for free I'm not seeing the appeal of these tax software deals.
If you're asking that then this isn't meant for you.

I made the mistake of waiting too long last year and ended up paying $29.99 for Deluxe + State in late March. I think January or February had the lowest price last year, so I'll jump in now.

Nothing to see here, the only chance you have on getting this for $18, is if it's the 2024 version.
Keep in mind that you get 5 activations. If you only need the 1 activation, you can easily sell the others for $5 each, which is what I did last year to recoup some of the cost.

I think I'll need 3 activations this year for friends and family, but I'll save up 2 to sell in March/April to SDers who waited it out for a better deal and couldn't find one lol.

Is the price for TurboTax going down this year or not? I get that the H&R Block is a good value, but I'm a long time user of TurboTax, so I'm comfortable going that route. Put it on sale!
I switched to Block from TT several (5 or 6?) years ago because the TT price kept going up... I had no difficulties making the switch ... worth considering if you don't find any decent TT deals

Where do you sell the other activations?

Worked for me. I noticed that at checkout, it said that the NYAF368 code expires on 1/18.

I was confused when I went to New Egg and saw my purchase of this last year was only $14, but then I saw I had used the half-priced $10 gift card from an earlier Slick Deal to get it to that price.
I guess I should have been on the lookout for that deal this year too. Did they have one?

FreeTaxUSA uses any documents you upload to train its AI models. I wouldn't personally trust them to properly redact sensitive information and not train the AI on it, and most of these AI products have issues with being susceptible to prompt injection attacks. i.e. someone uploads a file with instructions in the image to tell the AI to do something.
There has to be severall PII info violations if this is true.

Do you have any evidence that this is true or are you just assuming? I see nothing about AI on their site.

Thanks for clarifying! It's totally optional to upload/import documents of course.
