The 26TB Seagate Expansion Desktop is drawing attention as a cheap source of large-capacity storage, especially for shucking into NAS builds or using as cold backup space. The enclosure has been getting real-world transfer reports around 240 to 250 MB per second over USB 3, and some setups run Plex or media storage fine when the drive is not the bottleneck. The main cautions are noise, heat, and uncertainty about what drive is inside, with reports of Barracuda or HAMR based units and warnings that it is not rated for 24/7 NAS use. The micro USB B connector and awkward shucking process also stand out. A practical pick for bulk storage if you can live with the quirks.

Is this good for a Plex server? I'm reaching my 4TB SSD limit, and tbh, I use LGTV to watch plex and the platform is so slow I don't think the SSD helped much, so I'm considering the switch.
Notngood for NAS

Remember when Seagate was a reliable brand that you can trust to put your data on? No, me neither..
Yes, I do. Seagate used to be an extremely good quality manufacturer of hard drives with a great reputation.

Then they bought Maxter, a hard drive manufacturer known for making cheap, low-end, extremely un-reliable drives. That was in about 2006 if I recall.

Instead of upgrading Maxtors manufacturing lines to Seagate quality, they kept them cranking out junk, but now with a Seagate label slapped on it.

Get yourself an Apple TV and use that instead of your "Smart TV". Also remember when streaming Plex locally it's better to do Original Quality than have it convert.
Thanks! Would you say Apple TV 4k or whatever they have now is one of the best powerful ones in terms of handling UHD, 4K content? I've been considering apple tv for a while now, not sure what the big difference is between that and a firestick 4k or other devices, but I haven't educated myself on it. I stream everything in original format, its just the nav menu and booting up takes forever, once the movie loads its fine.. I have money so if Apple TV is better, I'll invest in it.

You can just do a software RAID.

that might be overkill? maybe something such as Rsync would be sufficient or https://freefilesync.org/

Remember when 1GB was massive amount of storage?
It was a whole one thousand megabytes!
Remember when good ol' BG said who ever needs more than 640MB? I think there's a few of us here who do.

Seagate SUCKS!!! When you do get in contact with them they will just respond with pre-canned messages. Do not have phone support and no way to escalate via chat. They intentionally go out of their way to not offer any reasonable support for their online store.Last I purchased a drive from them they cancelled my order and jacked up the price.
That's just all "tech support" these days. They ship their assistance to bots and cheap labor overseas and you, the consumer, gets to have a shitty help desk experience after spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on their products.

In terms of just using the Plex app a $25 Roku or Firestick will work just as well as a more expensive Apple TV. You just need a newer device to handle the app/streaming from your plex server. The internal OS of your TV is what's slowing you down. I have the same issue with my older Roku OS TVs, but when we use the stand alone plug in Roku device the Plex app is fast as hell.

They have no reason to. HDD speeds are the bottleneck, therefore updating the slot wouldn't provide any technological benefit. Seagate has long-running contract pricing on the USB-B connectors and switching would require them to renegotiate at much higher per unit costs. It would definitely be more convenient for the end users if they updated it, though.

Worth buying to shuck it for the hdd itself?
I'd advise against shucking, did it and regretted it 4 months later. At least use it externally until the warranty expires
