I know big screens are all the rage, but I think it looks hideous when they stick out and overlap the dash. It's getting harder and harder to find 7" ones, so I guess most people don't mind that.

I worked for Sony and Clarion. These units fit a price bracket well. Heck, Pyle is still in business for a reason.I promise you the sound quality, dependability and longevity of these doesn't compare to Japanese design. Value wise they are impressive though. Just know they may work fine, may not. I have seen plenty of cases of both being true. That is gamble you take at this price point - just don't expect to get the best signal to noise ratio or processor speed.
I think I still have a legit Nakamichi sitting around from CarDomain closing. I think there was a small issue with it, but as far as sound quality... The best!

I bought a cheap android head unit a while ago and be prepared for this to be quieter than your factory head unit
They may have gotten better but no wattage listed tells me it's not a lot. Plan to add amplifiers if you plan to run this and want decent sound.

I bought a car model specific android head unit. Mine had an 8 core processor but was otherwise identical. I paid around $150 about a year ago. It is slightly buggy. Sometimes it has trouble connecting to wireless carplay and sometimes it has trouble locating me on GPS. You kinda get what you pay for here. It is miles better than my old 2004 GPS and infotainment, but it is far from problem free like my wifes 2023 OEM infotainment.

Does this stick out in front of the dash with a 10" screen? I thought double din could hold 7" screen max when flush.

I bought an atoto android head unit for ~$100 or so off amazon and very pleased with it. Wireless carplay and AA works well. WRT steering wheel controls, most of these units have the ability to learn from the cars steering wheel control input. On mine, I went to a learning screen, pressed the function I wanted it to learn, then pressed the button on the steering wheel, and it paired the input with that function.

Yes, sticks out and overlaps the dash as if you mounted a 10" tablet to the front of the radio.

Interesting. I wonder how far it jets out. On one of my vehicles the double din was inset a good 2" around the molding.

One Amazon review says 1-inch, but it can tilt if your inset is angled. If it's 2" around the entire radio, that might not work, but if none of the dash bezel overlaps the radio face, you could probably mount it a bit further out.

That's what i was thinking. If memory serves I had to play with the mounting position to get it flush vs too inset or sticking out. So in this case I could probably have it stick out. I'll need to look at my dash again though because I'm pretty sure theres nothing directly under the screen but I believe my air vents are directly above the screen. I don't know how well the screen would fare in the winter with hot air directly blowing on it. I know when I had a vent mounted phone holder, it would sometimes cause my phone to go into an overheat shutdown. Thanks for being so helpful btw and repped! I love this place.

Yeah, you'll need to make sure the screen doesn't block any HVAC or other controls that you might need to be able to access. The air vents should be less likely to cause the head unit to overheat. Usually when phones overheat and shutdown it's because of CPU overheating. This radio, the CPU itself is in the main indash unit while the screen is literally just a monitor, so heat from the vents won't reach the CPU. Although you might want to see how much of the vents will be blocked because it might be a bit uncomfortable on a hot or cold day if the screen is blocking too much air.

I recently bought a single-DIN EONON that is similar, but has no physical knob and aside from the lack of physical knob, I absolutely love it. I tried a couple car-specific versions and they would have issues connecting to my iPhone 15 Pro wirelessly and after going back and forth with the companies I decided to go with a universal version instead. I like it so much that I am considering buying this version for my other car.

This has been a challenge for me. I have a 2014 Mazda 3 Hatch with the basic radio unit (no big screen) and the best ones I can find are like 9"+. I have found a couple, but I just want something that can do Android Auto and also be not slow. I've been recommended some of the newer Chinese models that are ultra wide, but because they're from weird, not established brands I don't know how reliable they are.

I don't care about looks as much as I care about sound quality, longevity and functionality. I've had about 50 stereos over the years, going back to my first CD stereo from Road Gear or something. JVC has never been an issue for me, I've had probably 12-15. Pioneer and Alpine have also had great quality. Even though Kenwood makes JVC, they were hit or miss, but I like my current one with that's double DIN with no touch screen and I've been using the USB port with a mini thumb drive, no issues for two years and hooked up to a 5 channel JL amplifier.

Buy what you want, but all the cheaper stereos have had issues over time, or garbage from the beginning. I won't do it again.
Adjust the bass and let the Alpine blast...

I didn't buy this, but bought a EONON head unit in the past, and it was very glitchy.
