Effective today FCC waved the rule requiring Verizon to unlock mobile phones 60 days after activation.

Yeah looks like good times over now.
What happens to the phones that were purchased prior but still not completed 60 days?

1 year of paid service, I guess. Mostly not worth, YMMV

No impact , they will honor the unlock .. For devices activated prior to today on Verizon's network, the 60-day automatic unlocking rule remains in effect. Devices from today on will be subject to the CTIA rule, limiting the consumers' options between carriers.

Not sure that's accurate as the website still says 60 days of paid service to unlock. They need to update their terms before they can legally enforce this or otherwise they'd be in breach of contract.

Based on my experience vzn/tf and mnvo Iphones are not preloaded with bloat but android phones are.

Also at an effective half of the retail price, one can't expect service providers to not explore additional ways of making money (for example, ads and tracking/capturing data etc). That's the trade off.

Last year when they made a change in Apr 2025 they applied the new policy to phones that were activated prior to the contract update. People had to pay the additional 30 day service fees. Lot's of people on other threads commented how they would contact the federal agencies and lawyers but nothing really came out of it. The carriers still got away with it. I remember 1 comment out of 100's where they were able to get them to unlock with the old terms.

They're definitely in breach of contract but at the same time they know almost no one would ever sue them to unlock a phone.

BTW this is now $199 at TW.

Yes but only if you prepay additional $195 for their insane 5G+ unlimited plan for 3 months upfornt. Takes the total price to $394+tax

Not to mention, also requires a selfie upload and id sold to 3rd party 'verrif'

Yep, happened to me with total wireless, they just changed the terms and conditions and it applied retroactively.
I filed a complained and in the end TW offered a $10 plan for one month to fulfill the new unlock

I asked Grok and Gemini. Both say legally they don't have a leg to stand on until they update the unlocking requirements on their site. Screenshot everything. Doesn't mean they won't fight you. They're bastards.
