Fire TV imo is better than webOS and Tizen but I'd still get a Roku or Apple TV 4K. It just comes down to personal preference

Roku is way better imo. Fire tv always seems to slow down with every update until eventually it's a pain to even navigate. I bought a new fire stick to get around that, but the tv will always start to the built in fire os, even when the "last input" is selected for startup, among other issues

Anyone have experience with Fire TVs? I always read negative things about them, but would it be so bad if an Apple TV or external device is what mainly controlled the watchable content?

I have nothing but negative experience, personally. I actually have 2 fire tv's that technically work, but the OS has basically locked them. They used to work if I factory reset it on every startup, so I'd have to re-download all apps and everything, but eventually they both stopped liking that solution, and now fail to do anything besides play audio of whatever they're advertising on prime with a black screen. Keep in mind both of these had extremely low usage, less than 50 hours of I remember correctly. Different brands as well. If you really like the fire os, just get a different TV and a fire stick. I've had no issues with my LG C4

I'm really thinking of getting this TV and using an Apple TV to play anything. My main concern is how overbearing the Fire TV OS is going to be regardless, and if it will mess up the TVs experience if I go that route.

It's a fairly cheap price, so I'd say can't really go wrong. Just FYI though with my issue, you can't use any of the inputs, the TV is basically bricked if the Fire tv operating system has a issue, which is very unfortunate, I don't need fire os at all, I use my Xbox for literally everything

I have a 50" fire tv and 50" roku tv, they are basically the same. I prefer the Fire because it is faster. Never had a single problem using an app with it.

Do not use the tv's os. How many times does this have to be said.

Yes, I cannot recommend a Fire TV because of this, and if you've misplaced the regular Fire TV remote, good luck changing inputs back, especially if the TV doesn't have any hard buttons on it.

My A6h from from 3 years ago has developed a dirty screen effect. Solid TV but it has an IPS screen and this one has a VA so not sure it will be as good. I prefer FireTV but they can be problematic on TVs so not so sure on this one. Any one know what this can do as far as this gaming mode plus? Says ALLM and VRR but the 120 smooth motion?

Well you could always run it in basic mode and use your own fire stick which would probably be more reliable.

But if you press the home button on your stick won't it go directly to that input? It should.

Agreed, on any TV. Use it in basic mode and don't even connect to the Internet.

Any decent newish External device is going to be better than the built in os

My preference is Android TV because you can side load firefox and you can install ublock origin as an addon. Then I use streaming websites that are unethical (need the best addblocker... ublock origin).

FireTV, does not allow you to side load firefox. That is why I would never buy it. But a simple tv box would solve all your problems. I would get a $200 N95 or a $450 8745hs, both windows based. The more expensive one actually is powerful enough to play the newest windows pc games at low to mid settings.

If all you do is paid apps... then you will have no issues with firetv.

Another thing that bother's me about firetv is.... is a common setup for smart TVs and streaming devices (like the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K). While the hardware is capable of 64-bit processing, the Fire TV OS itself is built on a 32-bit version of Android... so all software installed needs to be 32bit software.

Android TV (Google) is not much better... still running 32bit OS BUT BUT BUT Google has officially announced that starting August 2026, all new apps and updates for Google TV and Android TV must include 64-bit compatibility. This shift is designed to prepare for a new generation of 64-bit-only Google TV hardware. So there is hope.
