These are NOT $200 shoes, quality-wise. Cole Haan sold out decades ago and produces the exact same cheap cement construction shoes you can get from Chinese vendors.

Amazon has the same pricing for at least three other colors:

I have an obnoxious colorway of these and they are great shoes. I think I may have had to glue front sole on one of them at some point. This is like nike shoe masking as office shoe highly recommend. Looks like pump feels like a sneaker! Dont understand why cole haan couldnt make a killing on these but they are up for sale a lot. Maybe the saks bk will bring more deals boys

They use to have a collab with Nike and use their air pockets in the mid-sole, I still have a pair. They are pretty neat.

I tried these once, and they were way too narrow for me

Almost all Cole Haan shoes are narrow. However, I found with these stitchlite models that the flexible material offset the narrow design. In contrast, when I tried a version in a different fabric I found it FAR too tight. So while I do acknowledge your complaint, I also wonder if your experience was with the stitchlite model? I expect that for many wearers the give in the stichlite might not be enough, but for me it made Cole Haan an option again.

Good luck!

Yes, they all are a bit narrow. They were the stitchlite wingtip oxfords. I can see your point. It was kind of weird, because it wasn't so much that the sides were too narrow, it was more the solely too narrow for me. Almost like I was standing on a thin board and felt my feet overlapping. I have a few pairs of Cole Haan shoes and I can usually stretch them a bit with a shoe stretcher and they will be fine, but with the way they felt on the sole it bothered me. Glad they work for you. That's the thing about online shopping, you can read the reviews and make a decision, but until you try them you can't be sure.

On Amazon size 8 for black/magnet/black still lists a $21 coupon bringing the $69.97 price down to $48.97. Jealous of whoever can take advantage of this deal, as this is the color combination/design I'm most interested in buying.
  • I get my best compliments on the color-contrasted wingtip styles
  • I prefer the darker stitchlite fabrics as they arguably age the best
  • I prefer the non-white soles as they arguably age the best
Good luck!

You covered the problem perfectly. The 2.zerogrand have a relatively wide sole for Cole Haan, but there's no getting around the fact that the shoe isn't going to work for everybody, even more so when Cole Haan starts from generally narrow forms. I'd expect that if you'd tried a 3.zerogrand (which had a very minimal/reduced sole) you would've felt like you were walking on a tightrope. The 3.zerogrand design barely lasted past one run and Cole Haan has never brought it back or relaunched it to my knowledge.

This is in contrast to the first generation zerogrand design, which remains in production while also being made available in "relaunched" designs. I personally found that model far too unstable, but the relaunch changes appear to reflect some tweaks in the sole's design to correct that issue. However, I've been satisfied in the comfort of the 2.zerogrand to have largely stuck to that model.

Good luck!
Jon

$68 is nothing to get worked up about. $40-50 is a "slickdeal". $50-60 is respectable. $60-70 is decent if you need shoes urgently.

Had to go pretty far back (July 2024) to remember when I last purchased a couple pairs of the 2.zerogrand for sub-$50:
https://slickdeals.net/f/17598984-cole-haan-2-zerogrand-stitchlite-wingtip-oxford-dress-sneakers-black-and-blue-49-98
Those were noteworthy as the single-color style without having an option for the two-tone designs.

Amazon also came pretty close in a limited number of sizes this past October:
https://slickdeals.net/f/18705361-cole-haan-2-zerogrand-stitchlite-oxford-sneaker-various-from-53-60-free-shipping-w-prime-or-on-35

I don't count the OriginalGrand deal via Sams Club since that model is a comparable but fundamentally different shoe:
https://slickdeals.net/f/18534799-cole-haan-men-s-originalgrand-stitchlite-wingtip-oxford-42-81

Part of the challenge is knowing which styles typically get discounted the most often (solid color upper with white or ivory sole) vs. the less common sales (two-tone uppers and/or designs with colored soles).

Good luck!
Jon
