Is this a good deal for a linux laptop? Research suggests only one RAM stick is soldered and the other is replaceable. SSD also seems to be upgradeable.

Simply a preference for me with the Thinkpad. Recently got the P14s Gen 5 with the Intel after having bought the AMD one first. The AMD was a disaster for battery life with a relatively small battery compared to the Intel.

Ryzen systems can have thunderbolt too. It's not as common, but it's not exclusive to Intel.
