Assuming the 16GB is all soldered, there should be a spare slot for me to drop in another 16GB SODIMM I already have, and I have a few new 1TB NVMe drives I can swap in. Even if this comes with the dreaded Realtek wifi, it doesn't appear to be soldered from what I can tell, and I have an Intel card I can replace it with.
The only potentially significant downside I see is the screen. There look to have been a few offerings for this, and we already know this is non-touch. So it could come with the 250 nit oir the 400 nit low power. I suspect it will be the 250 which is really a blah display.
I opened it up and all components appeared original as they had FRU tags on them.
Mine does have backlit keyboard.
Also appears to have a microSD card reader, though I haven't tested it yet.
Battery has 368 cycles on it and is showing a full charge of 42K mWh vs a capacity of 50.5 mWh, which is about 84%. Not bad considering my 1 year old P14s Gen 5 is at 90% currently. I'll recalibrate the meter at some point.
The display is definitely the weak point. It is the 250 nit 1920x1080 display (non-touch) which I knew going in. I had hoped I'd get lucky with the 400 nit low power display, but I did inquire before I purchased and was informed it was the 250. OK for the purpose I'm using this laptop for, which is as a backup/secondary to my primary. The difference between this display and the 2.5K display on my P14s Gen 5 is very noticeable - brightness and quality of the colors.
Mine had 2x8GB of ram which was a bit of a disappointment since one of the two in this machine is soldered. I hoped it was going to be 1x16GB soldered which would have left me with an empty slot to bring it to 32GB. I removed one of the 8GB SODIMMs and replaced it with a 16GB, bringing me to 24GB. Since 1x16GB soldered was an option on these units, someone may have gotten lucky with this configuration.
Hard drive is a 256GB PCIe 3. I swapped it out with a 1TB PCIe 4 that I had from another project.
Windows was installed and was clean, it started up with the setup page to choose region. I ended up re-installing Win 11 Pro and downloading Lenovo Commercial Vantage to pick up all the drivers (as well as a Windows Update). I felt more comfortable with a fresh install, plus I had to do it for the new drive anyway.
Strangely, the entire computer was recoated/repainted, which was a surprise to me. Not sure how I feel about this. It looked like new, or even better than new, when I took it out of the packaging, But I imagine the coating could get scuffed a bit easier and potentially peel over time. In fact, the chrome hinges on mine were painted (and already peeling), and the charging LED was even covered with paint. Some of the vents and speaker holes seemed to have some overspray in them, but I didn't really detect anything on the electronics inside.
Unless I find some glaring deficiency, it crashes in the next 30 days, or someone gives me a heads up of something to be concerned about, I will probably keep this to use as my secondary machine, as I believe it will work just fine.
Sorry about the crack, and they are making you a tough deal on that. Unfortunately the deal is expired, so you can't order another and just return the one you have. I'd probably opt to keep the warranty, though I have never used a third-party warranty like they do, so I don't know how helpful it will be anyway.

I may have hit the jackpot with my unit. Came with 1080p touchscreen w/ 400nits, 16gb of soldered ram w/ open slot. Only sign of use was some fingerprints on the touchpad, it even had some of the protective film still on it.
I'm probably going to spend another $200 to max this thing out. Incredible deal makes the high RAM prices seem downright unaffordable! 🤣

Jealous of your experience for sure. I get how you confirm the touchscreen, but how did you confirm the 400 nits? Thanks.

Then I just looked up the specs of the display. (B140HAK03.2) On a second look, I think my panel is actually 300nits. Might upgrade but for indoor use it's been fine. Definitely not iPad Pro territory.
