What makes these type of "jacks" so expensive? For this price, I could get two, 50", Bessey parallel clamps.

These aren't clamps. They are called jacks because you use them to jack stuff up to hold it in a higher position for you to do whatever you need. Basically an extra set of hands if you're by yourself.

Their mechanism is the same as a standard bar clamp. I was comparing them in cost to parallel clamps because parallel clamps are much more expensive than bar clamps.

They are quite different from clamps, well made, nice metal feet and lifting metal lever. They can lift and lower carefully. There is also a Dewalt version, clearly same manufacturer but a few differences. You need to try them to understand. Useful to lift or adjust big and heavy things.
