Method 2: Apple HomeKit First
Factory Reset: Physically reset the Tapo switch (press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until it flashes orange/blue).
Add to HomeKit First: Open the Apple Home app and add the switch using its QR code or numeric code, completing setup in the Home app first.
Link in Tapo App: After it's in HomeKit, you can then add the device to the Tapo app for full Tapo features

Have to have the app that talks to a server in a cloud data center which then sends the command to your switch, right?
Not directly home assistant controlled in your own home network. For that you need support for matter protocol in the device.
I know some have reverse engineered the commands the server in the cloud sends and have HA send it. Is that the case here?
