The listed prices seem really way higher than last year.

A reminder: We have an All-Clad Pots & Pans Advice FAQ that covers this sale as well as the differences between all of the All-Clad products. Pricing at this sale fluctuates from month to month and item to item, so buyers should do their homework. The 12" covered skillet is a good buy at $85 but yes -- most items this month are at least $10 more than their historic best prices (the D3 3-quart saute pan is usually a "loss leader" that can be had for under $70, and it's $120!). For any specific item, search SD and you'll probably find a historic sale price."Nicer" is subjective. Again I encourage folks to check out the FAQ. The traditional handles were designed that way for a reason. I own both and they are both well-designed, but I prefer the traditional handles, especially for larger pans.

Plenty of all clad sold cheap at home goods.

But you may want to know about some issues.

Yeah, the settlement isn't a newsflash, the gist of it is, hand wash All Clad pots and pans because they aren't really dishwasher safe because of the harsh chems in dishwashing detergent combined with the heat eventually "can" degrade the aluminum core and making the edges rough.
The settlement basically determined All Clad shouldn't be marketing their cookware as "dishwasher safe", though it generally is but if you dishwasher it a lot, it is possible that it may degrade.

Isn't copper core the premium product? I recall copper > aluminum core, the All Clad D3 is aluminum core
It can be a "better" product but it's splitting hairs, saying this as someone with more copper core than any other type
D5 is probably the best of both worlds between heat retention, adjustment, and weight between d3 and copper
Just my 5 cents

The copper core is expensive, sure but it doesn't add much advantage in cooking because the copper is so thin.

There are also a bunch on sale on Sierra Trading Post but the brand is hidden and doesn't show up in search. I believe these would be returnable if you don't like what you get.

When I first came across this sale in 2024, I knew All-Clad was a quality brand, but their various offerings initially confused me a bit. Below are the pieces I've bought over the past year+ with the pricing before the 15% discount. I only purchased when there was 15% off, and all my purchases were second quality, except the roasting pan which was damaged packaging. Everything I received looked brand new. I could not find any imperfections in any piece I purchased. There have been other SDers who had different experiences.

Here are my personal preferences. I prefer the D3 handle for fry pans and skillets. The angle of the handle makes it easy to do the one-handed flip while cooking. I prefer the D3 Everyday handles for the sauce pans/pots because they are more comfortable to hold. The SD5 I bought was only because that style pan did not come in D3.

I would like to add a few pieces, such as a 2-quart saucepan and another 1.5-quart saucepan, along with some other items. Unfortunately, it looks like the D3 Everyday does not offer a 2 qt sauce pan.

Prices have crept up a bit, so I'll wait and see what happens with the next sale before another purchase. Overall. I'm very happy with all of my purchases.

12/11/24 - $85 - 12-In. Fry Pan W/Lid / D3 Stainless - $84.99
2/13/25 - 10-In. Fry Pan W/Lid / D3 Stainless - $79.95
8-In. Fry Pan / D3 Stainless - $59.95
4/5/2025 - 1.5-Qt. Sauce Pan W/Lid / D3 Everyday - $79.95
3-Qt. Sauce Pan W/Lid / D3 Everyday - $99.95
5/6/25 - 6-Qt. Stockpot W/Lid / D3 Stainless - $119.95
6/13/25 - 8-Qt. Stockpot W/Lid / D3 Stainless - $99.99
11/21/25 - 11-Inch French Skillet / SD5 - $89.95
16 x 13 inch Nonstick Roaster / NS Pro Nonstick - $49.99
I'm curious to know for what/when you choose the French Skillet over your 10 or 12-inch fry pan.

Precisely. Although copper has a heat conductivity of about 2.5X that of aluminum, the layer thickness is like 1/2-1/3 the thickness of the aluminum layer in the D3 (CC"s copper layer is also sandwiched between two layers of aluminum to reach about the same overall thickness of the D3's entire aluminum layer), which nets for a modestly more temperature responsive pan at a rather considerable increase in cost.

Some videos by Prudent Reviews on YouTube (https://youtu.be/w9yhMf0-3ts?t=344 and https://youtu.be/zL8so9QPqfQ?t=180 for example ) compare D3, D5, Copper-Core, G5 performance in some basic heating tests. There's other similar performance reports on YT as well. If the modest improvement in heating time and the budget isn't constrained, then buy it if it brings you joy to your cooking. One can still achieve great results even with the D3 line of cookware.

I've recently purchased a few D5 pieces (like D3 in construction but with the aluminum layer split in half by a steel layer) myself as it's shown to have more even heating between the center and outer areas of the pan which I desire. Interestingly, the D5 appears to have improved performance when used on induction (I believe that's shown later in the 2nd YT link) which is probably due to the middle steel layer being close enough to the magnetic field on an induction cooktop to help heat the pan. I have been using an induction cooktop for some time with my Cuisinart French Classic cookware so looking forward to this benefit with the D5 pieces.

How is 'packaging damage' different from 'second quality'? Do they have packaging damage in addition to being factory seconds? Or are they not factory seconds (factory firsts?) with only packaging damage?
If you want a perfect piece, get "packaging damage". If you want to save a little extra money, factory seconds will have some kind of small blemish on them. I only buy factory seconds, because I am cheap. I am a bachelor and I just want cookware that works well, not museum pieces. There is only a small additional difference in price to get only "packaging damage".

Have always wanted to try this sale out. In for a d5 skillet set where apparently it's only damaged packaging. Thanks, OP!
You'll really like the D5 skillet. It's heavier than D3. It's heavier, considered more resistant to warping, and more toward cast iron in its heat retention. I love mine.
