Yes, the MBA wins out in single-core performance, and is thinner and lighter than this MBP. But depending on your priorities, this could be worth it. I agree with the other poster that this deal isn't especially great, and the MBP is even better if you can, for example, get a 32GB model for the same price.
And this model was released in October 2021, so closer to 4 years ago, not 5.
3 more years of updates would be great! Then you can buy another $600-700 used MBP (by that point, probably at least an M3), and get another 3 years out of it. And you still spent way less buying two laptops than you would have spent on one brand new MBP.
It won't get updates for that much longer. It's reasonable to expect a Mac to last for 7-10 years of useful life. A used laptop is an unknown in terms of crumbs in the keyboard and how the battery was cared for. These aren't reasons not to buy, but rather things to be aware of and thoughtful about.

"It's reasonable to expect a Mac to last for 7-10 years of useful life" -- I agree, which means this still has plenty (3-6 years) of life left, at which point you can buy a budget refurb again.
Agreed on the condition & battery being unknowns and potentially problematic. eBay refurbs are required to allow free returns, so for this particular deal the risk is low. If you get one full of crumbs or with bad battery health, you can just return it.
Am I missing a deal somewhere? If not, could you edit your post to reflect the fact that the similarly-priced 32GB deals all had 512GB SSDs vs 1TB? Edit: also, even the 32GB/512GB deals seem to all be $750 and up...
