No, it's not. This configuration has been as low as $600, while the 32GB RAM has been available for this price multiple times as well.

Either way why would you buy a laptop that release 5 years ago?

Because it's competitive in performance with an M4 MacBook Air, cheaper than the MBA, has a better (and slightly larger) screen, four times the storage compared to the base model M4 MBA, more ports, better speakers, etc.

Yes, the MBA wins out in single-core performance, and is thinner and lighter than this MBP. But depending on your priorities, this could be worth it. I agree with the other poster that this deal isn't especially great, and the MBP is even better if you can, for example, get a 32GB model for the same price.

And this model was released in October 2021, so closer to 4 years ago, not 5.

I'm aware of what year it is, thanks!

3 more years of updates would be great! Then you can buy another $600-700 used MBP (by that point, probably at least an M3), and get another 3 years out of it. And you still spent way less buying two laptops than you would have spent on one brand new MBP.

Buying old technology is only wise if you really have a specific need and a very limited budget. In this case, it would be the 1TB SSD that would be the unique feature that might meet someone's needs. Most people don't need that.
It won't get updates for that much longer. It's reasonable to expect a Mac to last for 7-10 years of useful life. A used laptop is an unknown in terms of crumbs in the keyboard and how the battery was cared for. These aren't reasons not to buy, but rather things to be aware of and thoughtful about.

See my above reply for other reasons you might want this laptop compared to a M4 MBA (which is more expensive than this): screen, ports, speakers, etc. I think there are lots of reasons to consider buying this.

"It's reasonable to expect a Mac to last for 7-10 years of useful life" -- I agree, which means this still has plenty (3-6 years) of life left, at which point you can buy a budget refurb again.

Agreed on the condition & battery being unknowns and potentially problematic. eBay refurbs are required to allow free returns, so for this particular deal the risk is low. If you get one full of crumbs or with bad battery health, you can just return it.

Just wanted to confirm something: the lowest I can find on SD for a 32GB/1TB configuration is $854, posted last October here: https://slickdeals.net/f/18652927-refurbished-apple-macbook-pro-14-amp-quot-m1-pro-32gb-ram-1tb-ssd-2021

Am I missing a deal somewhere? If not, could you edit your post to reflect the fact that the similarly-priced 32GB deals all had 512GB SSDs vs 1TB? Edit: also, even the 32GB/512GB deals seem to all be $750 and up...

16" with 32GB RAM for a similar price which is a much better deal than this: https://slickdeals.net/f/19038865-apple-macbook-pro-refurb-16-2-m1-pro-32gb-ram-512gb-ssd-space-gray-799?v=1&src=SiteSearch
