I have a few of these, the flower buds are kind of annoying in the fall, they get all slimy, ie dont plant anywhere where you'd feel compelled to pick them up or remove them

We have a rose of sharon off our deck in the back, and it grows like mad (it's over 10 years old, I'm guessing). I pruned it last year and removed enough wood to fill my small truck bed. The bees ABSOLUTELY love it though, so we're doing our part for the local pollinators -- also attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. It blooms for many weeks.
