Anyone want to chime in on use cases for this? Do people use these for making YouTube videos?
What do you mean? Did you view the product page or just comment without even looking?

It's a "gimbal" to stabilize video taken with a phone. So yes to any kind of content like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc. It takes the shake out of videos to make them smooth.

It has other uses as well though like maybe you're filming your kids play or you can set it up to follow you and it will move with you. So basically it can give you an extra set of hands to film while it's out as a tripod on your table.

Great product. I bought the 7p then this came out a week later so I returned it and I'm happy with my purchase
Is this worth the upgrade over the 7P for $23? I just picked up the 7P from Best Buy for $103+tax (price matched BH Photo) and am thinking that for $23 more it might be worth getting the 8.

I got the 7P because it has motion tracking and use it to track the action on the wrestling mat while I am recording my wrestlers. It works pretty well for that and is better than trying to hold a phone while coaching.

It really depend on where you want to use something like this WITH EXTENSION ROD.

Extension rod/Selfie sticks are banned at many popular tourist spots, including major museums (The Met, MoMA, Smithsonian, Getty), theme parks (Disney, Universal, SeaWorld), and historical sites like the Colosseum.

If plan to use it in popular tourist spots, may want to get one without extension rod.
The Met banned gimbals as well, so not sure why you'd even mention it.

Does this work with a gopro? I'm looking for a gimbal compatible to work on a smartphone and GoPro. (Not at the same time.)

Barely an upgrade over 7P: 360 pan and Apple Dock compatibility (Android user so no value to me).

I believe DJI hasn't upgraded the motors in a long time. I have an S25 Ultra and my Osmo Mobile 7P feels barely strong enough to handle that without wavering and jittering. My opinion after having used several of these gimbal models over the years is: I want a strong motor for the best stabilization

Rather get the Hohem M7 with 500 gram payload. Waiting for a deal on that one.

A few things that you missed in differences:
1) USB-C port on the magnetic clamp area to charge your phone direct from there (using the gimbal battery of course.
2) Ability to add some counter weights to the mount area
3) Supports phones up to 500g, up from 300g on the 7P, which may be the most applicable to you.

I admit 1&2 are whatever but support a heavier device and the 360 degree turn makes me think I should return the 7P I got last Friday and pay $23 more for this one.
