Apple's 1 meter Thunderbolt 4 cable is framed as a premium, dependable choice for 40 gigabit per second USB and Thunderbolt connections, with a flexible, relatively supple build that should be gentler on USB C ports than stiffer alternatives. The passive design and bulk packaging do not seem to hurt its appeal, and the coupon code APPLEFIVE drops the price to about $31 plus tax. The main hesitation is value, since cheaper third party Thunderbolt cables and even Thunderbolt 5 options are available. A solid pick if you want Apple build quality and a future proof cable.
Professionals moving large files over 40Gbps Thunderbolt links, because this cable is described as exceptionally dependable for high-speed USB and Thunderbolt connectivity.
Shoppers who only need basic Thunderbolt connectivity and do not want to pay for premium branding, because comparable third-party cables can be durable and reliable for eGPU dock use.
The OWC Thunderbolt 5 alternative is suggested as offering double speeds, but that claim may not match the cable's real-world suitability for this deal.
It is a passive 40Gbps USB/Thunderbolt cable with a strong reputation for quality and dependability, but cheaper TB4 cables from Lenovo, Anker, HP, and others can also work fine for eGPU dock use and long-term reliability. The Apple cable is mainly the premium choice for flexibility and confidence, not the only durable option.
The listing explicitly shows "In the box: (1) Apple Thunderbolt 4 (USB‑C) Pro Cable (1 m) (Bulk Packaging) MU883AM/A," which matches the product being sold. The practical concern raised is whether the bulk packaging version is authentic, not whether the SKU itself is the right cable.
Yes. A Thunderbolt 4 cable is the better pick if you want a cable that can handle the specified speeds now and remain useful with future computers that support them.

Obviously not the cheapest cables in existence, but these are effectively unmatched in quality/dependability when it comes to high speed USB/TB 40gbps connectivity.

So I have two TB4 cables to compare to, and neither are Apple, and I can tell you that both have survived for the past four years.
1) The TB4 cable that came with my Lenovo TB4 Workstation Dock (its spliced in with their proprietary square barrel connector). The dock was several hundred dollars.
2) An Anker one (its a few bucks less than this one)
They both work fine and have done eGPU dock connection work.
Not saying this to say that the Apple cable is bad; however, you might not need to pay the fruit tax to get a half-decent item. Similar to lightning, there are good third party ones. In particular, the ones from HP and Lenovo, often harvested from their docks, are quite cheap and definitely just as durable and reliable. They can be as cheap as $10, but maybe around $15 or so if you want it domestically sourced. The ones I see look just like the one with my dock, complete with the FRU part number sticker.
On an unrelated note, Lenovo will mail out replacement TB4 cables if you purchased from them ($$) like no ones business, overnight, if even a single part of a package containing the cable is defective. I had two defective docks (firmware botched up), and got two new cables in my replacement parcel.
Perhaps a decent alternative (hard to say without any reviews @ BB), but how thick/stiff is it?
These Apple ones are relatively supple/flexible at least. I have some other cheaper TB4/TB5 cables that are... rather stiff and I'm always concerned about the strain they put on USB-C ports.

If its the same as included with the new TB5 enclosures, I'm reading the OWC cable is junk and recommended not to be used.
I've owned numerous OWC cables since the 1990s, and I've never encountered any issues with them. I currently have this specific cable, and I haven't had any problems in the few months I've used it.
