I've seen red dead 2 at $15 and red dead 1 at $20. So you may be able to get this cheaper. And I feel they are about to drop the prices on these anyway. However, I personally think $40 for both is a great deal in general. I don't think you can get away from the rockstar launcher regardless where you buy it- and that's clunky and slow.
caution: this requires a rockstar account and login. So, not a good deal.
OMG.....a free account required to play? Man, such a deal killer.
Side question, how did you post your comment on SlickDeals if you consider signing up for a free account to be such an insurmountable task? Log into your PC? Connect to the internet? Activate any of those required accounts / logins via yet another account and login for the email provider they would have sent verification emails to?
That is like driving 200 miles down the highway and surface roads and neighborhood streets just to complain about the final 3 feet of sidewalk in front of a business.
FWIW, RockStar launcher is annoying but your only other choices are consoles or pirate...which IMO are more of a PITA than the 2 seconds clicking "launch" requires here. Not to mention, the console requires umpteen more accounts just to use and you have to pay a monthly fee to play online. Most 'legit' (using that word loosely) pirate sites also require logins for the safer file hosting versions. And you are still putting yourself at a pretty decent risk.
TLDR: This seems like the lesser of any of the evils.
