After several years of doing this deal, I can't justify it now. I know the batteries are "free" but they are so overpriced. Yes, you get your $$ back, but then you need to spend the rewards on other items, which are similarly overpriced. The items I would buy at OD (cleaning supplies, paper items, coffee) are so much more expensive than other retailers, so this really is not all that slick anymore. I suppose one option would be to buy stamps with the rewards (although OD even charges a fee to sell you stamps).

Agreed with you. Some members wait long time to catch the deal like a case of water or something else but still too much time and hustle for no reason. If you need batteries you can get any brand any count from anywhere for better deal! There is no reason to get these!

I do this deal and end up buying several storage totes. When I need to stock up, I wait to buy more batteries. They usually have good deals for storage totes and theirs are surprisingly good quality. People always seem to keep mine when I lend them, which I don't mind.

Why do you say this is New Round? Do you have info that the limits have re-set versus continuation of the 1/4/26 deal into February?

Sorry but your doom and gloom post is totally off base and wrong.

1) You can price match battery prices at Amazon or Walmart to Office Depot, either at the store or online for pick up by doing a chat, provide them the links and they'll adjust prices in your cart you pay for pick up.

So a 16 pack of AA/AAA can be like $11 versus $20.

2) because you've spent $10+ oop, you now can recycle up to 10 ink carts for another $20 in rewards

3) again, your overpriced rant on using rewards is gloom and doom. You simply price match what you want to buy, whether it be paper goods like paper towels, toilet paper, KCUPS, ink for your printer or buy postage stamps with your rewards.

4) I do my P&G rebates using my rewards on P&G items price matched for CHarmin and Bounty. Because rewards are reflected as a gift card payment on receipts, they do not 'ding' your spend towards $50 like at staples wherer rewards hit as a coupon. So I spend $50 price matched, and get $15 Visa card for my trouble.

5) So for 1 pack of batteries price matched at say $12, I get $12 in rewards for that, $20 in rewards for ink recycle. if I buy 2 packs of batts. I get $44 in rewards, buy $50 in P&G items pricematched, pay $6 oop, get a $15 Visa Card.

6) and if you look around some cashback sites pay as high as 20% back at Office Depot at times, making free after rewards batteries a money maker because it more than offsets your sales tax say at 8%.

The fine print says reward will appear the next day. Can you use the reward right after it shows up in your account?

Yes, sure you can have a time-consuming chat with an OD rep (I have had a few of those over the years) to get a battery price match, then wait to make sure the rewards post correctly, then have another chat to get another price match a couple days later after the rewards post. Someone once said time is money. This scenario is way too much time for too little monetary benefit but I appreciate your input.

super easy to do it in store. takes seconds to show the price on your phone and cashier modifies the price.

Hey if you don't want to jump through any hoops, that's your choice, but many of us don't mind a little work for a lot of reward. getting $32 in rewards for a $12 pack of batteries is pretty good, and then using those rewards on fairly priced good by price matching.

A. Don't buy batteries just for the batteries "because they're free!?". Easy to end up with too many overpriced and poor quality Duracell leakers.
B. Always pricematch. Greatly reduces the total amount spent in most cases.
C. Collect* and recycle 10 ink cartridges every month you buy batteries (or any $10+ OD purchase) for an extra $20 in rewards ($2/cartridge). Which needless to say makes it a much better return.
D. Make better use of your rewards by watching for sale items. ( I think you can also pricematch regular items and pay for them with rewards, but I usually forget to do that too..)

*Can also buy empties from Ebay, or elsewhere if needed. This reduces your total gains, but can be effective if you buy in larger quantities ($100 for ~500 empties? (and have places to store the extras... for years.))
++++ Looks like someone had the same thoughts I had and already posted a similar response. Ah well.

In rare occasions the cashier does have to call someone to help, but I've found 90% of the time they can handle the pricematch in under a minute if you're ready and have the item website(s) loaded on your phone showing the price and seller (at amazon, walmart, etc.) They do NOT pricematch to 3rd party sellers on those same site, if that wasn't clear.
