1) You can price match battery prices at Amazon or Walmart to Office Depot, either at the store or online for pick up by doing a chat, provide them the links and they'll adjust prices in your cart you pay for pick up.
So a 16 pack of AA/AAA can be like $11 versus $20.
2) because you've spent $10+ oop, you now can recycle up to 10 ink carts for another $20 in rewards
3) again, your overpriced rant on using rewards is gloom and doom. You simply price match what you want to buy, whether it be paper goods like paper towels, toilet paper, KCUPS, ink for your printer or buy postage stamps with your rewards.
4) I do my P&G rebates using my rewards on P&G items price matched for CHarmin and Bounty. Because rewards are reflected as a gift card payment on receipts, they do not 'ding' your spend towards $50 like at staples wherer rewards hit as a coupon. So I spend $50 price matched, and get $15 Visa card for my trouble.
5) So for 1 pack of batteries price matched at say $12, I get $12 in rewards for that, $20 in rewards for ink recycle. if I buy 2 packs of batts. I get $44 in rewards, buy $50 in P&G items pricematched, pay $6 oop, get a $15 Visa Card.
6) and if you look around some cashback sites pay as high as 20% back at Office Depot at times, making free after rewards batteries a money maker because it more than offsets your sales tax say at 8%.
Happy to report the SKY IS NOT FALLING JUST YET!!

super easy to do it in store. takes seconds to show the price on your phone and cashier modifies the price.
Hey if you don't want to jump through any hoops, that's your choice, but many of us don't mind a little work for a lot of reward. getting $32 in rewards for a $12 pack of batteries is pretty good, and then using those rewards on fairly priced good by price matching.
