Between giving a dog this or nothing, this is the better choice. However it isn't a good choice if you can afford alternatives.

Thank you for posting OP. My local humane society requests this specific wet dog food. I agree that it is not the best quality and I don't feed it to my own pup, but I will buy for my local pet shelter. As someone mentioned, it is better than nothing. If you can afford it, please consider buying for the needy with pets or your local animal shelter.

Is that bad for animals? What is an affordable option for balanced diet without harmful ingredients?

A good dry food is much better. I only use canned food as a topper, but I avoid anything with by products.

No byproducts for your dog? Do you eat as well as he?

Pedigree Choice Cuts Beef in Gravy is often considered a low-quality wet dog food due to its reliance on fillers, ambiguous meat by-products, and artificial additives. It frequently uses corn, wheat, and soy to lower costs, rather than high-quality protein, and contains artificial preservatives like sodium tripolyphosphate.
Key reasons for its poor reputation include:
Low-Quality Ingredients: The formula often uses meat by-products and "animal fat" (a generic term that can include inferior sources) instead of named, high-quality proteins.
Fillers and Artificial Additives: It contains artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives.
Digestive Issues: Many consumer reports link this food to diarrhea, vomiting, and foul-smelling stool in dogs.
Questionable Nutritional Value: It is heavily reliant on grains and plant-based ingredients like corn gluten meal, which are less digestible for dogs compared to meat.
While some dogs may enjoy the taste and texture, these factors contribute to it being ranked poorly by many pet nutrition, according to consumer reports and forums

Can you recommend a brand/product? I hope it's not something like $5/lb.

One of the best bang for the bucks is Diamond Naturals. If you buy the 40 lb bag it is about $1.25 /lb and if you do S&S the first one is 35% off, which is a real deal since you can always cancel. Looks like there was recent price increase of $2

It's not perfect but even the really expensive ones aren't either. Read the ingredients.
