Very mixed reviews on this, may depend on the panel type or how it's wired. Going with Home Depot on this deal as the return policy is much better than Amazon.

i have the klein one for about this price range. is this one much better? With the klein i've had issues not being able to find the breaker. it would just ring at multiple breakers.

So how would you use this to change out a dimmer switch?
You have to do it the old fashioned way. Turn the light on, then have someone else flip the breakers until you find the right one.

I have the same issue with an outdoors light I want to replace.

Thanks, but that is the reason I need to change out the switch, the light not longer comes on, so guess I need to check for voltage at the switch and see which breaker stops the power. I was hoping there was an easier way to find the breaker w/o all the breaker flipping. Oh and to make matters harder it is a 3 way switch.

This technology is not 100% reliable. Idiot proof/dirt cheap option is to energize only one breaker at a time (do not connect more than one black wire to each breaker) and check for 120 VAC using cheap/free Harbor Freight multimeter at the outlet(s) inside the home. Label the outlets controlled by this breaker.

I've seen homes with two or more black wires connected to one breaker. Sometimes, a single breaker can control different AC outlets in different rooms.

Great for figuring out who's stealing your power.
Easiest way is to switch off all the AC breakers going into your house and watch the power meter. If the meter is rotating or shows more than 0.1 watts, then someone is pulling power somewhere between the power meter and your AC breaker box.

In theory the power that you use should be controlled by a breaker located in the breaker box.

Wow, I didn't know this was a thing. Too bad it's 50/50 on this thing actually working from the comments and reviews. Meh, never knew I had a problem before knowing about this product so... I'm good.

They make "Breaker Finder Accessory Kit" sets, which let you attach the transmitter to the wires with alligator clips.

I just got the AstroAI version for $40 which I haven't opened up yet. Shame that Klein and Fluke don't include accessories like bulb socket adapter, 3-to-2 plug and alligator clips. I've had a fluke cable toner before and although it worked well, so did some of the other brands I tried. Let's see how AstroAI plays out.

How do people steal power? Are you in some kind of shared housing? Also, how would you figure out who is stealing? If you can't figure that out, then you have no idea where to put the transmitter.

I'd be curious how well it worked because that model on Amazon has all the accessories you mentioned. Suppose if the Fluke worked well, a power adapter to a light socket, can't be too much.

Edit: Actually only $3 for outlet adapter at HD: https://www.homedepot.com/pep/Lev.../100357036

Amazon reviews are more favorable than the HD ones overall. I have such weird wiring in this place -- receptacles on the 3rd floor connected to ones in the basement -- that I'm giving it a shot. Any time I need to find a circuit breaker for an outlet, it takes 4-6 breakers before I find the correct one, and I've tried to label them over the last 6 years. Hopefully this can save me some time as I need to swap out 4 outlets that escaped the "great upgrade" a few years ago.
Ordered through AAFES and got it for $53.10 shipped. Even better.

how often do you check breakers to need something like this?
