thanks OP..picked one up. HAD to get ONE NOW for wife since her 6th Generation iPad just gave up the ghost! coULDN'T WAIT FOR THE NEW CHIP ONE TO COME OUT IN A MONTH OR TWO...needED ONE NOW!!! good deal for the price and added a $50 GC TO SWEETEN THE DEAL imho.
Updated model with A19 chip right around the corner (early spring). I'd hold off personally.
I've never understood this argument. So, wait for the latest model, which is going to be as expensive as it's ever going to be?
Then maybe the previous model will go on sale? For the same price as this kind of deal?

I wouldn't personally consider $50 off to be a big deal, at all, but you do you.
with that logic you might as well hold off until 2027 when the Ipad will get an OLED.
$50 off a tablet that's nearly a year old with a 3+ year old chip in it, a non-laminated display, and only 6GB of RAM is just not it in 2026 imo. It never makes sense to buy a product right at the end of its lifecycle, because it will only go down further in price when its successor is released.

Actually, new one is probably getting released in March (if Apple follows schedule of last year). So waiting one month adds a year of longevity as well as faster processor and the ability to use Apple Intelligence on-device features. The big thing about the AI is really that the lack of it will probably cause the current A16 version to lose support faster than the norm of 7 years… my guess is probably closer to 5 years of IOS support (and it's a year old, so down to 4 years at this point for the A16 version).
Of course, it all depends on your situation, but a month or two might be worth it even if it costs $50 to $100 more overall.
Even if if you still want the A16 version, the price should drop considerably when the A19 version comes out and retailers like Bestbuy and Amazon start clearing inventory via more flash sales.
Neither is bad choice, just worth understanding the trade-offs.
Just my 2 cents.

As a college student I really need this ASAP but do you guys think it'll go down even more around presidents day and on places like walmart as well (I have a GC) since the new iPad is approaching?

You're not making sense of the fact this is Slickdeals and plenty of people want a sale price for something? And the newest thing that's coming is more than they can or want to spend? So they should wait till several months for it to go on sale?

$299 for the iPad always gets a lot of traction in here and no one said this is a big deal, it's the only deal you can find at this time and $50 is real money to some folks. And is there any news on what the new one will cost when it does come out?

Good point. I think some people confuse this site with "Full Price non Deals". Anyone can go into a store and pay full price at any time to buy something, but that's not why this site was created about 20 years ago.
