Metro is locked to its own network and will not work with T-Mobile. It used to work the other way around, but I recall T-Mobile ended up blocking that as well. Don't count on using this Metro device on T-Mobile or any of its other MVNO until it is unlocked.

I've had the power and the stylus and I prefer my edge the others are a little too wide for my hands and the specs are better but no audio port. 2024. And I don't even like edge displays but my case protects it so I'm good. Best budget phone imo.

The 2024 Moto G Power for $95 at Best Buy when you add the $26 Visible SIM. While not technically cheaper, it would be my suggestion. Some have reported being able to not pickup the SIM and just getting the phone for discounted price, which would be $70 if it worked out. No 365 day wait to get it unlocked, and the 2024 is a better device in some specs.
the 2024 Power has a dim screen at 500 nits max and gets washed out in bright sun. I gave mine away. The 2025 Power screen nits is 1,000 and much brighter. The Sylus has a much better OLED screen up to 3,000 nits.

Can I use it with the regular (cheapest) T-Mobile post paid plan after the 1st month?
No. Metro only until unlocked.

Is this the same one that Walmart has on TracFone for $100 with the 1 year minimalist plan?

checking the specs I think that must be the 2024 version or something.

That 365 day unlock countdown is so anti-consumer. I would have been ok with 6 months of paid service, especially on the more budget oriented phones they tend to give away on the cheap or free. I am very happy I went with an unlocked Moto Stylus from Amazon and just got a cheap promo plan on it. These big mobile service providers will get their pint of blood from customers one way or another.

After a year this phone will return minimal value. Aim for something that you can trade-in with higher price next year such as an iphone 16e for $99.

The 2024 g Power has wireless charging as well, along with a better CPU (moto changed from a mid-tier CPU to a budget CPU for 2025 g Power).

I didn't notice it changed to one year until recently. It was only 6 months when I got the '22 and '23 Stylus'.

Good for backup phone that do not need immediately, but wait to unlock then switch.

Almost all prepaid low priced phone are required 1 year to unlock now
