CAHSR is supposed to do SF to LA in 2h40m
Flying requires airport security and buffer time for that. Plus train to and from the airport.

Why would there be traffic or gas on high-speed rail?

Excellent find OP! This is another reason why the high speed rail train failed with it's 5 hour trip from Bay Area to LA while these flights take 1 hr 15 minutes. Ticket guesstimates were touted at $100. one way by train. Massive fail.

BUR is a cozy airport but it would be nice if they worked out the airspace issues with Van Nuys.

The two airports have been running next to each other without incident for 95 years. I'll take my chances.

you will also need buffer time for boarding the train. and you still need to get to and from the train station. and if there's no security at the train station, how safe is it? it just becomes an easy target. atleast with airplanes, the taxpayer is not burdened and there's no room for graft and no land wastage.

Buffer time is a lot less with trains since you don't have to go through security theater. Honestly it just sounds like you're making up reason to hate on train travel. End to end air travel would probably still be slightly faster for most travelers (heavily dependent on how close to the station/airport you are), but the point is to create redundancies and relieve congestions both in the air and on the roads. I also highly recommend giving train travel a try next time you travel to a country with functional rail transit infrastructure. You'll be wondering why US haven't invested in passenger rail sooner.

Train travel is perfectly acceptable if you are willing to put up with Germans making pornographic films and Belgians trying to solve murders. Plane travel is perfectly acceptable if you are trying to learn jive.

From wheels down to entering Universal Studios via Uber is about 30 mins (if you're using carryons). The legendary Smokehouse restaurant is 20 mins away in Burbank (old Hollywood, George Clooney named his production company after it). Or Warner Brothers Studio Tour. About 45 mins to the center of Hollywood.

Oh, and me. I live here. Smilie
