PC building has now got to the point where we build systems on a 10 year old platform. Thanks AI Datacenters...

The difference between DDR 4 and 5 is basically nothing.

DDR4 is old stock
DDR5 is no stock

The problem isn't just that RAM has gone up in price. The system I built in September is way more expensive now because everything costs more except for the case and PSU. Mobo is $40 more. SSD has doubled and is $60 more. GPU is $80 more. DDR4 is $200 more when I originally only paid $50. CPU went up $50 and it's only a 5700x. The entire build went up from $490 to $775. That's bananas when you consider it's a generation old, SSD is 1TB, and an RX 6600 XT so nothing is top of the line. It was a budget build then and is no longer a budget build now but the parts are all on the lower end.

I was also building 3 other systems but all are now on hold bc the people I'm building them for don't want to double their budget for their budget PCs. It's such a sad time to be a PC gamer and I have no problem sending people to buy $400 NEW PS5 systems.

If you're consider spending 400 bucks for this combo, might as well grab one of the microcenter AM5 bundles if you have one nearby.

In the current PC building economy, this is a great deal. It wouldn't have been 6 months ago, but with RAM prices what they are......if you're building a budget machine today, this is it.
